SnowBike Loading Ramp

I bought a set of the same orange 8" wheels at Harbor Freight. It seems like most guys were going with the 10-inchers, but I thought 8" would be enough for the job and wouldn't prop up the front end any higher than necessary.

I might have to find a ramp like that... it's got just enough extra width that you could confidently ride the bike up with no worries.

which wheels to get

I actually started with the black 10" wheels, but they're even spongier and tipper than these, and sit higher as you mention, not good. So I went back for these - Much better. The hard plastic wheels in other photos are better on concrete but much worse on gravel or snow/ice cause they dig in.

How do you unload with the Spine? I'm still tailgate dropping. Not that hard, but the ski sometimes hangs up on the tailgate and I don't really like doing it to the bike.

To load just use your feet for balance and i have a short bed so the tailgate is always open. to unload i just throw the ramp right behind the track and site on the bike and walk it backwards and she just floats down the ramp doesn't seem that the front ski ever gets caught up. Ive never had the ski caught on the tail gate.

The tailgate doesn't get in the way if you look at the ramp and at the top you see the pecies that are welded on for the track to grab theres on right on the top of the ramp the keeps the ski flat and it just slides onto the ramp nice and easy and is about a inch i believe up the tailgate.

Thanks Crazygunner, I'm going to have to try that. I have the loading down pretty good, but I never thought about unloading with it.

I've noticed some of the Spine ramps like yours have an additional arm like the ones that hold the foot braces. Any idea what those are for? It also looks like the foot braces sit a bit closer to the tailgate than mine. Mine are also all black. I think mine were made last summer, it works on the newer track.

I really like the spine. Im making my own that includes a section that ties into the bed so I don't have to strap down the handle bars to get the bike out. Also to take the weight off the tail gate. It will also remove the need for the tie down to keep the ramp from spitting out if you blip the throttle to much.

Any one have a video of them unloading with the spine?

I think this is their newer spine everything is pretty decent I'm going out today so I will try to get a video of unloading

Crazygunner, so yours looks to be the gen 2 spine? What a huge improvement over the first gen.

Looks like the third gen is even better (load with wheels or without). Really liking having both options. I see pictures of both on the website. Wonder if both will be offered or only newest gen.

I'm using a crane from Northern Tool. It installs into the receiver, the tailgate is still useable, and you can leave it installed while driving.

Vid quality was good on a tablet. Thanks for posting. Comes off pretty slick once on the ramp.

That crane looks pretty nice CR500, but I'm not ready to drop that kinda cash on a loading solution yet. As I get older though it might get more appealing. Do you leave that winch out in the parking lot all day while you ride?

Thanks for the video Crazygunner. I think your spine is set up a little different than mine. There is a big space between the tailgate and the foot brace that would be hard to get over going backwards. I think I'll have to see about getting the braces moved closer or extending them a bit.

LOL cr500afx cracks me up! You missed some awesome tree riding yesterday by the way cr500afx!

Also thats not his CR500, thats his 450R Turbo

Not bad on the unloading! Looks like you could just get infront of it and push it down. I often unload solo.

Here's my my design, Not much different. Just that it pins into a bed mounted section so that during loading I don't need to a strap. Had it fail more than once. I also have made the bed section 110" Long to keep 100% of the weight off the tail gate. I still need to draw in the foot rails sections
