Snow in Grand Lake

The trails are holding but getting thin. No off trail yet this year. They need snow bad. The town trails is closed as well. Check the colorado snowmobile association website for up to date reports. The groomer up dates it at least weekly. But unless you ride trails there is not much in Grand Lake yet this year.

Come on over to the Grand Mesa approx 42" in the last 3 days and the riding is perfect. Thunder Mountain Lodge has cabins, bar, restaurant and 800 sq. miles of powder.

It will certainly be brought up in our conversations....but others planned this trip....so it will be up to them what they want to do. I am just along for the ride! I called you the other day asking about your cabins so I have some info already. Sounds like we for sure will have to stay in GL Sunday night....wont be there until late.

We rode GL today and found decent conditions in the woods, it was still snowing this morning. They got probably 8-12" from the past storm in the upper elevations, less accumulation in the meadows do to wind so we stuck to the tree's most of the day day. Found a lot of bottomless snow in the trees and small open areas. We have one crossfire with us and he had a tough time in some of the areas we were, and he a fairly experienced rider. Lower elevations only saw a couple inches....including in town. Gonna be heading back out tomorrow to check out some more areas.

At the end of the day we did come across a guy that had walked a mile from his group to the main trail.....they had managed to get all four of their rental sleds stuck back in some meadows about 1 mile off trail. The rest of their group was about 1/2 mile from their sleds. We were able to get their sleds unstuck and rode them back out to them.....it could have been a rough night had we or the rental place not found them. They were not dressed all that great....and really had no food or supplies to stay over night.

Wow that's great. Good job. Hope they bought you a beer! Sound's like it's getting better. my buddy own's a house over toward gravel so we dont have to far to ride thanks for the update.will be there on friday have a great day.

Tried to ride into town this weekend and it was closed. The snow was VERY thin snow on the Grand Lake side - Gould side was a little better, Trails were decent with a little snirt but fields were packed. Basically needs some snow in general

You are probably a lot better of going to Rabbit Ears or Buffalo Pass- much better snow

Anyone riding tomorrow the 6th i need a partner, i know a few secret spots where there might be sum freshies if any out of towners need sum guidance..

dbaker, do you think there is anything up there to ride in? Sent you a PM with my contact. Debating if it's worth hitting stumps all day.

Did the Poker Run on the 14th--snowed all day above 9,000'--about 1.5 ft from Friday 13th to when we got off the mtn at 4:30. The town trail was open.

Finaly some snow

Im glad GL is rideable now, I never done a poker run. How was that? Do you stay on the trails or can you run in the open powder..:face-icon-small-hap

The Trail Blazers Snowmobile Club of GL with help from the Mile-Hi Club of Denver have an annual Flight for Life fund raising poker run and silent auction each year with stuff donated by merchants and dealers--cash prizes for the best hands.

The first and last cards are dealt in the Community Center in town while three hands are dealt on the trail (big circle). You can go off trail and play anywhere along the route. The run starts at 9:00 and ends at 4:30 so there is lots of time.

The Poker Run usually takes place on Valentine's Day.

Consider joining the Mile-Hi Club. We meet the first Weds of the month at Clements Rec Center, 1580 Yarow St., Lakewood and our activities are posted on the new CSA web site www.snowmobilecolo.com Look for the Denver tab.
