Sneak Peak - ProRMK Questions

Thought of a couple more questions.

Who went with electric start? If you did is it worth it? If you did not do you wish you did? Wonder how much weight is adds?

How bad is the carbon fiber rear bumper, really?

I have the 2011 Assault, as Rotax said, they starts extremely well. As for rear bumper, I have replaced it now for the third time, (looking for an after market bumper) it does not take wheelies to well!!!
 
Randy, sounds like your decision is getting easier. For Me, last year was a hard one for me, after owning nothing but Doos for the Past 35 years, it was hard to make the jump, for 2 reasons, the first one I already mentioned, never owning a Polaris Sled, and #2 Jumping into a new, first year Chassis, well now after 800 miles, and even more Smiles, I don't regret my decision, the Pro RMK is the Best sled I have been on. I like most things about this sled, handles great, sidehills awesome, plenty of Power, excellant fit and finish, yea the Side panels are a bit tricky at first, Love the switches off the handle bars, makes the bars less cluttered, I don't ride at night, so the lights stay on lo beam, and it's not bad reaching the warmers. The Carbonfiber bumper is like glass, don't bump anything or it will break, and using a bungee on it is out of the Question, I installed a Nice one from CoBe Motorsports. The Hood comes off in about a minute, and the tools are in the tool pouch, as mentioned, 2 screws, and 2 push darts, 1 elec plug, so it can be removed in the the feild. You will not regret the Pro RMK.

I have had Yamaha, Polaris and Ski-doo. I like to think I am no longer brand biased but I have had mostly Polaris sleds. When the REV came out I went right to the REV because I could see the advantages of it. Then a few years later other chassis came out that were rider forward and offered more leg room. So I switched to the IQ chassis. Also in the process I started to ride off trail and go out west.

I absolutely love boondocking and riding Powder on the IQ chassis. Mine is the 08 RAW. The sled feels light and really easy to pull over. I actually like to switch it up once in a while and am ready for a change. If the new polaris chassis would have not come out I would probably switch brands just to try something new like the Cat. However, now Polaris has a new chassis and I keep hearing awesome reviews on it so it looks like I will be sticking with Polaris once again.
 
I went with electric start but I've been spoiled by it since I got into sledding. My first two sleds (05 700 & 08 600) that I bought used had it on when I bought it so I've had it from day one. This time last year when I bought my 2010 D-8 as a carryover I looked in the summer and found a kit on ebay for it for $400 + $100 battery and then this winter I sold my primary for $250 so it was pretty cheap to add on.

Now that I snowchecked my 12 Pro I opted for the electric start. Its only $400 with the battery and everything from the factory so since I've always had it and it spoiled me it seemed like a no brainer to me. I like it especially when I roll my sled to get it unstuck and need to start it without it trying to keep rolling.

As for the rear bumper, I've heard quite a few have broke so I don't want to get out West and have mine break and then not be able to use it to get unstuck so I ordered an Edge Works rear bumper for it today.
 
I've been one of those guys in the past who laughed at electric start. Well, the only pro left at the dealer had electric start on it and now it's sitting in my shop. And I use it. Every time. Kinda growing on me now. I did pull the rope once just to make sure I remembered how, and it works just fine too.
The battery looks like it's over 10 pounds for sure, but oh well I payed for it might as well use it, right?
The time where you really appreciate the e start is when say you just had to do a mandatory roll on a nasty sidehill and the pullstart's on the wrong side of the sled, just lean over and turn the key.
Oh ya, I frickin love this sled, it rips way better stock than any of the 3 i.q. chassis I had before, and is neck and neck on the hill with my buddy's Very well running piped, shaved head, longer tracked m 1000. (I'm 155 he's 162) He used to destroy me on my i.q.
I haven't tried a line I wasn't able to execute on this sled yet, up, down, straight across it does it all just right for me
 
I don't think most mountain sleds are built for trail riding in the midwest...granted, I understand SW is turning into SMW lately, so its prob not far off that mtn sleds get further watered down by the trail riders due to this fact.

Some people like obnoxious skilis, but I guess more people don't. I'm probably with the group that doesn't.

Anyway, the 155 isn't terrible on the trail, especially if you keep your ski stance wide. I don't even mind it too much with my stance full narrow.
 
Can't speak for a Polaris as I am only a future owner at the moment, but I have run Mystik JT-4 full synthetic in my Renegade for 4 years without any issue. Mystik and Citgo and are both made by Citgo by the way. Other people in my group run the Sea and Snow and it works for them just fine as well...the Sea and Snow is a synthetic blend.

My family's company is a Citgo motor oil distributor among other things but as far as I can tell these oils meet all the same standards as any of the manufacturer's oils and it's quite likely that some of their oils might be packaged by Citgo anyway. And the price is right...we are selling full synthetic JT-4 gallons for $24 plus tax on our shelf. Can't remember sea and snow off the top of my head...we only have in quarts, but it is less than the JT-4.
 
I have ran citgo sea and snow for the last 2 years in my assault and when cleaning the exhaust there is no difference over the VES Gold. I bought 3 cases (12 gallons) 2 years ago for $10/gallon at mills fleet farm. It is great and it is a proven product. I think Mills Fleet Farm now carried Mystic which replaced it. As long as you are using an oil that meets mfg. standards they have to cover any engine failure unless they provide there "propriatary " superb product to the consumer at no charge. Save money - go Citgo!!

Just to clarify, the Citgo Sea and Snow is still available as is the Mystik but it doesn't matter - they are the same exact oil. Just different bottles. :)
 
Actually if you look at the oil bottle it meets higher standards than most of the name brand. I've been running sea & snow for the last 3 years. I also believe the synthetic blend is better because you end up with some mineral oil on your crank parts.

I just wanted to double check because of all the previous issues with the 800.
