SlowWest

If this was all about increasing ad revenue, they have significantly missed their mark. As an advertiser, I can tell you sales generated from Snowest have SIGNIFICANTLY dropped since this "change".

I had the pleasure of meeting Christopher face to face. While I believe he has good intentions, and his enthusiasm is second to none, I must say he's very set in his ways and I was a bit taken back how user (and advertiser) feedback seems to fall by the wayside.
If Snowest wants to turn this ship around and save face, they need to listen to the voice of the common user. Right now, we are being silenced and cast aside.

But so be it, there's always another forum waiting in the wings.

I've said this since the onset of the changes and I was attacked for it.
This site is nothing if not for it's users. We should have more of a say in it's running and ADMINISTRATION.
I get the feeling that the intent is to appeal to an entirely NEW demographic base. And that we, the older users are being phased out. The problem with that is the we are generally the ones with the money and the experience.

The daily rhetoric is: Wait, it will get better. Or, even worse, "it's not my fault".

Sadly the changes have done something that the greenies have been trying to do for years. They have divided and weakened one of the best organized and powerful voices for this sport.

But, as I was told early on in this mess, the industry experts who are much smarter than I know "exactly what they are doing and where these changes will take them".
I truely hope they are right and I am wrong.

We, the users give you permission to restore the site back to the primary categories, and a fixed version of the swapmeet. Time to put all of those fancy thing-a-magiggers that come with the Swiss army knife away, and focus on the blades only.

<<Feeling more like I can't do squat until I am given permission. >>

There's 2+ feet of snow on the ground & I've spent more time on MTBR (yeah, mountain biking) the last few days than I have on here.... what does that tell you...

I think 99.9 of us would gladly give permission to change things back.

Just so this isn't ALL one sided, there are a few things that I think were positive changes, the my forum thing (although I don't use it since certain forums fall off MUCH faster than others), and the thanks button, it gives a quick visible representation of whose actually trying to be helpful instead of being a sarcastic azzhat like myself!!!

Yep, that's about it.

Please fix slowest - make it simple again

It seems to be getting even slower and there are even less users on. We used to have 300 to 500 users on at a time and it was not this slow. It took me 6 tries to send a PM today. The first two times I tried, I could not even get to the PM page and then I got the Database Error and it was over. I tried to send email on the Database Error page, but there is no email attached. So then I try later, only to type in my message and add a few smiles and have it poof on me three more times. I finally just typed about 10 words in with no smiles and sent it. That finally worked.

I feel like I am on dial-up here at work and at home, where we have cable, it is like 2 to 3 minutes per page and it is getting worse. Between all the BS on here and the new Swap Meet, it is not feasible to spend time on SW, it takes up a good portion of my day to do something that took maybe an hour before, now it is 3 or 4.

JUST MAKE IT SIMPLE AGAIN!!!

I think I'm gone for now. I just don't have enough time to wait for things to load or send anymore. I find myself leaving the site and looking elsewhere. I'm typically one who embraces change, but it needs to be positive change. In this case, all I would like to see is more speed.

Yes the way it used to be, and it worked just fine, even with 4,000 on line at once.

Here is something else I've noticed since all the recent "improvements" :face-icon-small-dis

A little hard to describe, but it seems that the comradship has suffered greatly on the forum as a whole.
("Comradship"meant as a good thing) or:
"camaraderie definition
ca·ma·ra·derie (kam′ə räd′ə rē, käm′-)
noun.
loyalty and warm, friendly feeling among comrades; comradeship."

With so many sub/sub/sub headings, that feeling of "togetherness" or (hate this word) "community" has been lost, IMO.

When there were fewer categories, even though I might have not been interested (as an example) Ski-Doo posts, it was still interesting to me to see what was going on with other people and their machines.

Now information is available in the dozens of sub categories, but it can take several mouse clicks to find answers to specific questions.

If the admin was looking for a way to show advertisers more activity on-site, they surely have found it!
I know some sites count every mouse click as a "hit." Or put another way, even a blind squirrel can find an acorn with enough tries.

So I don't expect admin will change anything based on my comments, but its too bad that the "home-town" kind of "feel" for this site has had a huge setback.

Dunno, does my rant make sense to others?

You said it better than I could of! I have complained over and over as many have but it gets us know where.:confused:

Christopher is on a mission that very few agree with and he could careless it seems.:mad:

Oh I care alright, don't kid yourself. Just because I may not agree with you, doesn't mean that I am either ignoring you, nor couldn't care less about what you have to say.

X2

losing more and more good peeps everyday around here:(

Doesn't seem to be working

:(I was actually open to the change in format and welcomed it with open arms. After a few weeks however, I have definitely noticed how slow it has become. So, is going back to the old format the fix for this problem? If it is I think the majority of the Snowest community would gladly accept that. I guess sometimes newer isn't always better. You can never fault someone for trying, but it might be time to either go back to the drawing board, or maybe revert back to the old format.

the old format definately created a closer knit amongst the users for certain...it just seems that the expanded forum and subcatagories has created alot of lost friends..??..we moved from the cornerstore in a small town to a wallmart...Snowest was a powerful force ...a person in General snowmobiling could put in a plea for aid for someone and donations would start...and the talk would spread though the community...that is definately lost now...Snowest made Hitlers mistake...it opened up to many fronts

Admin-Help us out

Hey, I know we don't pay a dime for using this site.

But...

Whole crap it is slow!!!

If you are trying to search for anything or zip through the new posts at the end of the day you better take your dinner with you.

Is there any way to speed this thing up.

You are forcing me to look at this page in the middle of the night when the number of active users is down.

Yeah - all of the new changes haven't had any negative effect. It's simply that everyone is using the wrong web browser. Going back to the older forum structure that worked for years would be ridiculous.

All these errors are only seen by Snowest's smallest group of users: Those who actively post.

Heard something about adding new servers, but somehow I think simply throwing muscle at it isn't going to be the solution.

MD.

Change things back

This forum was the best one out there that I had found . But now it is starting to suck . It's so slow at times that I just say bag it the swampmeet was great now the new one not so great. It's not to late to get ride of the computer nerd and save the forum . They done the same thing at my work let the geeks loose with the computers now they never work right or as simple as they were . It's like tinkering with a sled to much everything sounds good on paper but only works good a third of the time . After awhile you want to go back to stock or get rid of it .

Christopher: What is the resolution to this site no longer functioning well?

What is the holdup in moving forward?

The site needs a pair of high speed dedicated internet servers. We have known what we needed and wanted for quite some time now.

But I am stuck in a holding pattern waiting for authorization to purchase, install and setup those servers. Each time I think we are ready to do it, obstacles have arisen.

Until such time as I have permission, authorization, instruction from Harris Publishing to proceed, I am stuck here, suffering from the server crunch just like every other member of the site.

I really really thought it would have been resolved by now! I know my appologies don't mean much at this point, but I have nothing else to offer until corporate makes a final decision on how they want me to proceed with solving the problems.
