sleddecks

just sold my deck. never going back!

if you like crawling in the bed of your truck to get stuff,
not be able to put anything taller than 2ft in there,
bang your head against the overhanging sharp sides of a deck a few times a season,
have to ride your sled up 5 ft every time you load, a deck is for you.

if you're like me and live an hour from the snow, and meet your friends at the snow line anyway, you should just put your sled on your truck, or get a single sled trailer.
I've also owned a double open trailer, I wouldn't recommend that either.

what ever you do, stay away from steel!!!
steel + road salt = rust

you do lose your pickup with a sled deck. if this is your only vehicle there is some issues driving thru drive thrus, going to the bank, throwing stuff in the back of your rig etc. With that said, i am going on 5 years with a deck. I live in a rural area so no garbage pickup. it is funny watching me tie my garbage cans to the headache rack though.

I've had a slide out sides STF deck since the spring of 2005. I love it, use it year round to haul sleds and quads. Can pull a two place trailer if we ned to take more sleds. Or I can pull a holiday trailer with my quads. Put on a locking tailgate handle (if your truck doesn't have one and you have great security under the deck)

I LOVE my sleddeck!!! Mine is pretty basic, aluminum, no marker lights or expandable sides but I did add high profile ski guides on the deck and treated the wood with an antislip deck stain. It is one with a beavertail - which helps prevent wheelie'ing when loading. I don't mind climbing under to get gear out and if you have a locking tailgate - it is good for security. One thing that is different with mine is where it is mounted, it is about eight inches back from the cab - this is good if you get someone that is a little hot on the throttle when loading.

My only complaint is not being able to tow the enclosed trailer with the sleddeck on.

I have had two now and would not go back to a trailer. The sleds stay MUCH cleaner than a trailer. You can go up some god forsaken logging rodes in the spring to get to the good riding.

Definitely get the expandable sides, that eliminates the drive thru issues that Tim mentioned, when unloaded anyway. Even loaded it is easier to get thru the drive thru than a trailer if the height is good.

Two things. DO NOT BUY ONE THAT SITS ON THE BEDRAILS. The bedrails are not designed to carry that kind of load.

Second, get one with a structure underneath, not legs. You lose a little bed space but it has substantially better structural integrity. If one of the bolt on legs loosens up and you don't can't it you are in for a catastrophe

P.S., DO NOT BUY STEEL, you will regret it.

Just my .02.

I built my own deck and yes I used steel. It doesn't have to be that heavy. MY deck is less than 400 pounds and I can load it on my truck in less than 5 minutes by my self. Retractable sides might be nice but they add weight. If you keep you deck around 8'2" you can park or drive anywhere. My ramp slides under the deck and is 9' long. This cost me less than $500 and took me two days to make. Aluminum, retractable sides, two piece ramp, all nice if you want to spend $3500. Most trailers and real truck decks are made from steel and if painted properly I don't think rust is a issue.

from the one that I have seen, and the countless pics of other deck manufactures the one thing I would be conserned about was the fact that it sits on the bed rails. ( It looks that way in the pics).

That was my main concern as well, i'm going to drop in their shop next week to take a closer look. I deffinitely wont buy it if there is no supporting frame.

I really like the other decks on here, but the question i have is how to get one shipped to Ontario for relatively cheap.??

Bought a Hi-Rise this year, aluminum, beavertail. Love it. Skeered the first time I loaded, now don't even think about it. Have dually so it only sticks out about 4" past fenders. A sheet of plywood underneath with a tie strap to grab onto and you have a pull out table and a way to get to your gear.

The round cab guard looks better in my opinion than the square tube style. Also don't like diamond plate so like the smooth sides.

I have a silverlake deck with expandable sides and I love it. My truck has a six inch lift and loading and unloading is not bad. The sleda stay nice and clean when they are that high up to.

Would storing stuff in the box be any differnt then in you have a tunnel cover as far as space and acces. Well minus just lifting or rolling the cover open?

2 to 3 years? Sounds like a salesman is trying to sell you. Steel weights to much and rusts. I have a Moto Mikey deck that is going on the 4th season, and no issues with it.
I second this. We are on our 4th season with our Moto Mikey deck. Also have a two place trailer that we use if theres more than the wifey and I. Works great. Dino

That's one hell of an idea... :beer;

If you want to save money!! A good built steel deck is not as bad as these guy make it out to be. Just Keep it coated.

But if your pockets are full of green and want THE BEST aluminum is THE BEST.

I got less than a fourth of what a new aluminum deck would have cost me and it has never failed me. Yeah sure I might be a cheap A$$ but I am not made of money either. I know tons of things I could spend the extra dough on. SHOUT THATS ALOT OF FUEL...........LOL
