Skidoo 800 E-Tec vs. Polaris 800 CFI

But if your life depended on your engine not letting you down, even the Poo loyalists ought to pick the Doo.
I've had 800's from both camps with zero problems, but we sure hear of more Poo 800 failures here on the forum.

That's funny right there....
Kinda like saying my sled will outclimb everyone else....

The 2005 900 CFI had 4 injectors and it never had problems this widespread, like top ends burning down and stumbles in the mapping, Polaris is caught between a rock and a hard place with their CFI, they seem to have a hard time meeting EPA emissions while making the sleds run good. Hopefully they'll have a good DI system going soon and they can dump this CFI crap.

Polaris didn't have to meet the current EPA restrictions back then. The 800 CFI issues are a result of leaning out the fuel settings so that they meet the fleet wide requirement set by the Fed Gov. Ski-Doo side stepped this by first making the 600 an E-tec and now the 800. They also added the 1200 4-stroke which when averaged in made Ski-Doo look golden for the EPA issue. I wonder how AC will do with this same issue!

I read an article from Jim at DynoTech that the lower 2 injectors of the CFI controlled the mid range fuel managment. I'm sure this has something to do with a new setup that has only 2 injectors instead of 4. It's too early to buy into the more or less HP depending on how many injectors there are. I think the fuel management is a more telling story.

Here's an interesting story that is building. Polaris was the heavier of the Poo/Doo sleds this year. Polaris had a FI sled that they were having EPA issues with and Doo had the lighter sled with carbs. For 2011, Poo will be lighter and I think they will have the EPA thing worked how. They have to! But Doo will be heavier (486 for the FreeRide!) and they will be going to FI and have to deal with electronic fuel management. I wonder if they will have it nailed down in the first year? I would hope so, it's going to cost buyers another $1200 for the E-Tec.
