Skidoo 800 E-Tec vs. Polaris 800 CFI

So it looks like Polaris is going to build a nice mountain sled for 2011. Im wondering about the CFI vs E-Tec motor? Might like to try Polaris for a change. Is Polaris going to have the bugs out of it for 2011? Does it have comparable power to the Doo and Cat 800's?

Lets hear some constructive discussion. Not brand bashing.

I think the chassis will be strong enough. They had a year on the Pro-R in 2010 to find weak points.

I am just not sure if the CFI is up to par with the E-Tec?

I rode the new 2011 RMK this weekend. Very nice handling sled with an awesome stock suspension. I rode an 09 xp last weekend and I would say that the XP and the RMK have very similar power bands. I would give the edge to the RMK, way easier to handle in my opinion. As far as durability on the RMK's goes, only time will tell.

As far as chassis goes I think anyone that is being realistic can agree that poo will have the better overall mountain package. I mean look at their past chassis.
But as far as engines go. The doo will make more power and will probably be more reliable on the hill. I'm not saying that the poo will share the problems of past sleds but come on, we can't completely disregard history.:face-icon-small-hap

If Poo can dial in that 800 to make power AND be reliable at the same time, without the lean/rich/hesitation issues....I think they will have a great sled! I don't think a guy can go wrong with either, with the "proven" factor going more towards the Doo because it's not a new chassis and the E-tech has been around awhile. JMO-

well

I might have a chance to get a poo and a doo..

Poo 155 Pro RMK 800
Doo 154 Summit X 800 e-tec

Hopefully!!!!!!!!!!

I will definately not hold back on the comparisons,

We shall see!!!!!!!!!!

How the heck are people expecting the 2011 model 800 CFI motor to make 163 HP with TWO injectors, when the FOUR injector setup from previous years couldn't make that much?

The Polaris guys at the demo ride said no way was poo ever going to state a hp rating in advertising. So I would assume that the 163hp rating is that of the doo.
But if they have fixed the way the fuel is delivered, than I would think that would be an obtainable number. Higher fuel pressures can help two injectors match 4 injector performance without having to worry about 'blending' the four injectors. Of course that might not even be the case though.

If they could get 2 injectors to make the same amount of HP, they would have never went to 4 injectors in the first place.

I bet the 2011 800 CFI will have the same amount or less HP than previous years.

Polaris wasn't using the 4 injectors at the same time, they switched from the 2 pair. I don't remember why, but that's supposedly the reason for the stumbles.

the pro rmk has really got my attention, if they can make there rev/xp better then ski doo ill have one

I have no issues with either brand, having owned an XP and now riding the T-Dragon, but it looks to me like the Dragon is going to be for sale and I will be snow checking the RMK-Pro. You can not beat Poo's ability to build a sled that handles very well and I have had no issues with my 800, you just need to correct the EPA compliant B.S. fuel mapping, then the Liberty 800 runs as good as any 800 out there, drop a few more lbs. off of it add a turbo and hang on. Seems like a winning combo to me. Had they not come up with the new RMK I would have considered swapping out the wife's Rev for a new E-Tec 154 Summit X, but looks like she and my buddies will have to be content with riding it another year.

M1000 uses two injectors.

I should have rephrased my statement I guess, I'm not doubting that Polaris can use two injectors to get 163HP, what I meant is that I doubt that they can do it and make it run good and meet EPA emissions. If they could, why didn't they do it in '08?

Polaris wasn't using the 4 injectors at the same time, they switched from the 2 pair. I don't remember why, but that's supposedly the reason for the stumbles.

The 2005 900 CFI had 4 injectors and it never had problems this widespread, like top ends burning down and stumbles in the mapping, Polaris is caught between a rock and a hard place with their CFI, they seem to have a hard time meeting EPA emissions while making the sleds run good. Hopefully they'll have a good DI system going soon and they can dump this CFI crap.

I think the 800 CFI could be the best motor out there if they could get the mapping figured out.

^^The '05 had 2 injectors, the '06 is when the 4 injectors came to be along with a bit more power on the table. The 600 Shift has 2 injectors and alot less problems overall compared to the 4 injectors. Sorry Joel. . .

Doo is talking 155+ hp from the 800 E-tech.
New all white Summit FreeRide looks good, quite a choice of graphic wraps, on the website.

We could argue chassis all day and end up agreeing to disagree.
But if your life depended on your engine not letting you down, even the Poo loyalists ought to pick the Doo.

I've had 800's from both camps with zero problems, but we sure hear of more Poo 800 failures here on the forum.

You're right, it was the '06, my mistake.

Don't forget the 600 CFI-2 has 5 less HP than the 600 CFI-4. :face-icon-small-sho
