Skid plates----Why aren't as many ppl using them?

It's not the weight of the skid plate but the 20 pounds of ice that always seems to build up in there. Some designs are better than others.

Best to have one for what they cost. I wacked my old KK900 into a hidden rock, damage was not good. If i had a stump pan, nothing would have happed.

I looked at mine today on my XP and its got all kinds of scuffs and dings in it.

I dont even remember hitting anything ;)

Chaz

Helps with floation and also keeps from hooking a rock with the bulk head and or coolers up front. Well worth the extra weight, 1 or 2 lbs lose it somewhere else.

Had some time to kill the other night so I took my boys out to bust some drifts along the fence lines and were it not for my skid plate, that cinderblock someone had placed in just the right place would have tore into my engine block... I'm sure of it.

As it is, it tore a hole in the plate, but no damage to the sled. Well spent $$$ IMO

My skid plate has some nasty gouges that I'd prefer there than on my belly pan. Plus it's a purdy yellow!

I put a hole in the belly pan on my 96 sled from hitting a rock early in the year. Took out the bulkhead. Never had a sled with out a skid plate since. The first thing i put on all of my new sleds.

my brother just about took out his heat exchanger last year without a skid plate. we both bought one due to that. Mine wouldnt mount up to my sled. holes were over a half inch off. i just left it off. He put one on. like 3500 miles and no damage. Hardly any scratches on my bellypan.

Because a skid plate would have done me absolutely no good in this situation...

And it wouldn't have helped in this situation either...
