Silber vs Aero..

Well-known member
I am new to Polaris this year and now I am trying to figure out what turbo to put on the Pro?

I have been reading about the pro's on the Aero, but I am having a hard time justifying the cost difference between the Silber kit and Turbo Doc's

I am familar with the Garretts from my Nytros.

Can someone get me some more info on either kit and the pro's vs the con's
on these 2 kits?

Is the Aero worth 2 grand more?

Thanks in advance
dc

The aerochargers are a great design since they use a self contained design unlike garrett turbos. With the ceramic ball bearing technology and use of special oil in them there is no need to a feed/return oil and coolant lines like on Garrett normal ball bearing turbo. Some might like this, others may not. What the aerocharger has that the garretts don't is the variable vain technology. This helps a bunch to get rid of turbo lag. It lets the aerocharger run at peak efficiency through a wide rpm range. It automatically adjusts the flow area and backpressure so there is no need for a wastegate. You also don't need a boost controller, which is just another plus and saved $$$.

Im not familiar with the Aero but what i do know is that over the past week ive been installing a Silber kit on a friends '09 Assault. Justin at Silber Turbos has by far the best customer service. I've called and talked to him late at night and over the past weekend trying to get this kit dialed. he has answered my calls every time and always pointed me in the right direction. He was telling me that the new Pro Kit is 99% bolt on . No cutting of the pipe and you use your stock exhaust dump. His prices are very fair and his kits run top notch.

I got a friend who just ordered Silbers turbo also. He hasn't recieved it yet, but the help and info he has given him is very good. Always able to talk. ETC. Sounds very good. Very knowledgable

I too am currently in the process of installing a Silber Turbo on my D8. like what everyone has said, top notch customer service.

I vote Areo. You have to weigh in the cost of everything that goes with a garret too. oil tank cooler blow off.....probably somethin else im missin too. Ive got a HM kit and its awsome! very good quality parts and that turbo hits super smooth and keeps pullin! I would go this route again!

Full HM kit ready to run-$6,675.00
Full silber garret kit ready to run-$3,500

Garret also controls the heat better and allows you to run higher boost levels.

im not sayin that this silber kit isnt a good deal. Look at what your gettin with the 2 kits. ready to run yes. But the HM has a water to air cooler which is a 1200 dollar package and cold air intake too. everyone knows cold air makes more power. Im pretty sure HM has lowered the price on his full kit to around 6 now too. he's also offering a kit thats about the same price as a silber it just doesnt have all the fancy goods. still a ready to run kit though.

I can run 14lbs just fine with the aero. dont really want to run any more than 12 so its not a issue of running more boost. 9-10 on pump.

How does a garret control the heat better? you mean because you need a turbo cooler?

If your gonna look at just a price tag then go with the silber. I probably would of if i didnt buy a sled with the HM kit on it already But after seeing how this kit runs I think i wont ever have a sled without a air to water cooler.

oh and silbers website says his kit is 3995 on sale from 4395. yes still less than the hm.

Silber Turbos

If his pro kit is anything like his IQ kit you wont be dissapointed. His customer service is second to none as well. He has helped me out with components on my Ski Doo turbo and it wasn't his kit to begin with. DC I know what you had done to your Nytro and you will undoubtedly get the itch to turn the boost knob and the Garret will accomidate the higher boost levels better.

Do a search on "you tube" for Silber Turbos. There is a spring tuning video that really gives you a good idea on how responsive his kits are.

Doc, the kit im installing is on Travis Wyss Assault i know we have all ridden many times together. Were installing the race gas setup which the kit is capable of 18 lbs on the stock engine! Justin Silbernagle is an awesome guy to deal with and really makes a great top notch product.

My Choice . . .

If the choices were ONLY between HM Turbos and Silber....i would choose Silber in a heartbeat!! Why? because HM has some pretty substantial customer service issues that i have personally experienced. I would NEVER buy from them, and could not, in good conscience, recommend them to anyone!! Silber will answer anyone's questions by phone or email....HM will not!

Now...don't get me wrong...i have an Aerocharger on my sled and love it! I also have great customer service from the guy who built the kit....THAT is priceless!! I highly recommend the Aero, and will be putting that kit on my new Pro RMK when/if i get it...but C/S is where its at, so choose wisely.

Best of both worlds would be if Silber sold an Aerocharger kit!! Now THAT would be priceless!! :)

The attached pics show the kit on a RUSH. Though the sleds are a bit different, i am told this same basic design will be what goes on the PRO RMK. Pretty simple install :)

Cheers!

I guess ive never called HM directly. I use Fastrax for any questions about my kit since he installed it and has alot of time tunning them. Curt is by far the most stand up guy ive ever had the pleasure to torment all winter with my questions and he's always there to awnser. AND he does sell the HM kits! so I would say if your scared of the C/S from HM but like the kit then give Curt at Fastrax a call! He's putting a aero on that new C/F Pro he's building. thing is super sick!

Ya ok maybe
I have heard a lot of good stuff on Justin and I have seen his customer service. I put it right with Paul from Impulse..

Boondockers

I'm curious as to why we don't hear much about Boondockers on here. I thought they had sold a ton of kits and I don't really hear anything negative about them.
So why no feedback on here about BD??

because the guy why asking for silber or aero so my thought is either he is going for the cheapest kit out there (silber) or aero charger.

Boondocker does offer a great kit to, what I read, but the tag price is just about the same as hm turbo so I guess he would reather like to go for an aero but if he can find a better deal with a garreth he will go with it.

It does depend on the money you want to spend. I have a CMX with a aero from The Turbo Doc, and have installed 2 of his kits on new dragons, and have one to do now. They have been quality built kits that come in around $6000 for everything including clutching. He doesn't advertise much, but he has been really easy to deal with and get ahold of. Ride with a lot of Boodocker kits also and they run good, but the aero at 8lbs runs harder than the BD at 8lbs. The aero is a really clean kit, but costly. No matter which way you go you will have a smile on your face with boost!!!!

I have had a BD kit before I did care for their kits I believe that there is other kits out there that work great and with better service. I have seen to many of their kits fail in the last 3 years.

probably because we were about even with hp? you know your sled runs well. you dont love me anymore since i sold my 1200.

both silber and turbo doc are great for customer service.

it really all comes down to what $$ you want to spend.

i install and run both garrets and aerochargers.

I tend to lean more on the aero for my rmk
