should i turbo a pro or an e-tec??? please help

i have a bunch of money saved and i want to ride a turbo this year. i cant afford a brand new sled and turbo kit so the new m8 is out. i was thinking a used low kms pro 800 or e-tec800 for $11000 and then the turbo kit should be a total of 16ish. so now can you please tell me witch sled to go with and what kit and why? thank you for your EXPERIANCED answer. oh and i dont want to ride the old m chassy or nytro. pro or e-tec only please. also i want to run low boost on mostly pump fuel. cheers.

Never been around a turbo etec. I wouldn't own a turbo Pro and try to run pump gas. Very dissappointed in the ones I've been around. Run race and more boost and you should be happy. The pump gas Cats (old chassis so it's out for you) seem to work great as well as pump gas Dragons. Not sure why the Pro seems so much harder to make work. Probably the same reason we there are so few turbo etecs and trying to make fueling/mapping all work.

as much as im a doo guy, i dont really like how most of hte kits are setup to boost the etec, i would honestly prefer a turbo carb doo to an etec turbo... the pro's are pretty nice, and are much friendlier chassis IMO. I know there are also a bunch of low mile turbo pro's for sale and im betting a bunch more are gonna come up as soon as winter nears..

Personally I would run a pro with one of silbers kits on it..

thanks for the reply so quick. really hey,,, i didn't know that about the pros acting up. do you know what kits they were running? and it's been a full year i was kinda hoping some one figured out the e-tecs by now. a buddie of mine has a pro with the boondocker kit on 9 pounds and he says he's happy with it now. i rode it once, just when he installed the kit on 6 pounds and it hit super hard when it boosted. he says he went to 9 pounds and messed with the mapping and he says its better now. im not really a fan of boondocker tho. i was hoping someone can let me know how the other kits are working. cheers:kev:

my co worker builds a few turbo 2 strokes each year (all 3 brands) he rides a a ski doo himself and was telling me that in his experience the doo engine has been the worst at holding up for a turbo. and now he only turbos cats and poos. hope that helps

Boondockers is close on there etech. You also have trask and turbo performance. Do a search on both. I would love to see a twisted etech. That would be sweet.

Keep saving, the cat motor is buy far the most reliable, I wouldn't want to spend that kind of money on a e-tech or pro and have it blow up, the e-tech is a good motor but the electronics are so advanced its scary, the pro is just a average motor and will fail at some point. So do you want to spend $16000 and be staring at a problem. I would buy a used Turbo'd one for around $10000 and save the money to make it better.

I would put my twisted rg M8 (for sale) against either of those with a pg kit, with the right suspension you would be surprised what you can do with one.

I run a trask turbo etec and from what i have read the turbo pro's seem to be more dialed in than the etec. My sled pulls hard but it still has some tuning issues. I dont think it is truly a pump gas kit either i have run staight race since day one. I run between 10 and 12 pounds though. Hoping this year the tuning issues are resolved.

I don't know etecs but why are you running so much race gas??? I can run 2-4gal of 100ll with 91 and run 10-12lbs, if I run straight 100ll on 12lbs its real lazy off the bottom. I think you would be loosing bottom end performance running that much octane.

I think you are correct about the too much octane comment. I was running straight race just because it was a new turbo kit blah blah no one really had expierence with them and i figured good fuel was cheap insurance for the amount of money i put into her. Towards the end of the year is started to run maybe 70/30 race/pump at 12lbs. Bottom end did clean up a bit. Very impressed with the top end has to be 260hp+ but still had tuning issues down low.

Nasty bottom end bog, and finicky fueling. Hard to keep a consistent a/f at wide open. I dont think the current controller adds enough fuel. I ride in valemount and revelstoke for the most part i think roughly 4000 to 8000ft.

Do those have any kind of a detonation sensor, I would think if your added 110 rg with 91 50/50 would be enough and might help the low end bog, what size turbo is it and does it run with a intercooler

I'm not too sure on the deto sensor on the etec's thats why im running so much octane. its a 2860 turbo and yes its intercooled with 2 auxillary injectors. I have a gt3076 at home from my drift car im debating running that im just not sure how well it would work.

Yep im learning the these 2 strokes need bigger turbos. Will have to try the gt30 this season. To be back on topic the pro is further along on boost as far as reliability and testing goes. If i wasnt a ski doo guy i would probably make the switch lol. Hoping to get the etec running good this year!

just noticed you already asked that question in the doo section, my bad

I just go with what works, I break stuff and if it weren't for being scared of the pro engine I would have one. Hopefully the cat lives up to the standard the pro set, if not I will be looking at putting a cat into a pro.

Yep the cat engine in the pro frame would be sweet. I have also though of throwing a t800 cat in the xp but i cant imagine thats cheap.....lol.

i love this site.

thanks for the great info. i guess pro it is. now ,,, can you guys tell me about the ARROW CHARGER SYSTEM, with the free to air cooler. there is a guy trying to sell me a kit for $6000 canadian (summer sale). he says it comes with everything i need. i got some buddies with the twisted kits on there m8s and they love them. one of them was runnig straight av-gas and couldn't get it to run properly, so he dialed it down to half av half 92 and it is 100% now.
