lookin at a 09 assault and a 09 dragon and a 2010 dragon

looks like there ALOT of people going through motors multiple sets of pistons . . you name it . . whats the deal here ive been a cat guy and i think im going to stay cat by the sounds of it,

i do like the sleds tho what should i do.

thanks

Well. This is a touchy one. For me? Early on when I first bought mine I would have said burn any and every 800 CFI you can find! Now I love mine! Updated motor, PCV, lots of venting, working on grounding the ECU, maybe adding a fan, and problems solved. I did five motors and two sets of ECM's/voltage regulators in 1200 miles. After I got the engine updated and added a PCV it has been totally amazing for the last 800 miles. Cat's are also awesome and proven to work well. IMO both great sleds that will have their own issues, but nothing a person can't fix relatively easily.

My family has gone through 5 and not one burn down or motor problem. The only issues we have had were from the temp sensor on the pipe. They were covered under warranty.

imo, buy the 2010 and dont worry about it... i am not a fan of the updated 08 and 09 motors, but that doesnt mean they arent just as good, i think it is really the luck of the draw and who(dealer wise) sets them up originally

There difference between an updated 09 motor and a 10 motor are very minimal. Don't be afraid of an updated motor. Just new pistons, rings and head. I would buy one again, and the only reason I sold mine was to fund my Pro Ride.

x2.

I have had no issues with mine, but the mid range fuel mapping is very lean from the factory. I got the update done, put an SLP pipe, intake and clutching on with a PC111 and it works great!!

well thats seems like bull**** that a guy shouldnt have to deal with, if ur sled breaks i understand its under warranty but your weekend and 500 miles drive to the mountains, is shot. and i dont wanna risk that come on polaris get it toghether

Had I known how #$6ked up my sled was gonna be, I'd be riding a cat. Mine went through almost as many pistons as I have toes. P.S. I still have all my toes.

Ha! Ha! Nothing to fear but fear itself, right?! The whole point is to be scared when you squeeze the grim flipper on the handlebars-regardless of what you ride. Be scared, very scared!

Hey Trenchmaster you must have got a good one from sombody:face-icon-small-win..

Supra polaris has a very long history of failures and you do not not have to look hard to find them.So it will be a crap shoot, maybe you will get lucky and get one of the good one's then again? I do know people that have had all the updates and are still struggling with there sleds not running right. My self if i was in the market right now i would go with a cat, not that there perfect but they seem to be a pretty good performer with good longevity.

i know everyone who has a problem posts but i though i would just say i have had 2300 trouble free miles zero engine problems had it in the shop once for a tps sensor adjustment and for the update i wish i would not have done the update it ran better before and my pistons looked fine i dont mind the two ring pistons but i want my old head back doesnt polaris have thousands of them sitting around somewhere? im out of warrenty give me my head back...

You say that like they didn't have any problems.

Did they EVER, EVER correct the bog the M7's had?

How about the M8's melting everything in the engine bay? Diamond Drive issues?

Ski-Doo was eating top ends on the REV chasis. The XP was destroying clutch belts. Two belts on the XP and you bought yourself a new top end.

Everyone has had their issues, I myself have had no issues with my Assault (2009).

Wanna trade yours for mine? :fish2:

Thanks Larry, I feel fortunate to have one of the good ones, the only sled I would consider replacing it with would be the new Pro Ride. The Cat front end just seems real loose to me, and I hate the way the XP rides.

unfortunately the dealers have to send the heads back to polaris before they will get paid for the warranty.
