Shimming Waste Gate

Has anyone shimmed there waste gate? I did today and it is not a fun job to do. I am running a boondocker and my buddy told me to shim the waste gate no more than 1/4'' and you can run 24-25 pounds of boost on good fuel. His sled runs really good I have not tried yet cause its 30 below here. Has anyone else tried this yet?

I put it all back together and put a BRV Valve on it and a elbow intake to replace the stock one right on the turbo and turned to boost up to 24 and holly what a difference. I had to put a hundred grams of weight in it but that thing rips hard its 8050 rpm and standing on its bumper all the way down the field. the BRV valve is different I do notice that there is better throttle response. I am very impressed with the sled cant wait to go to the hills.

That is a mod some flatland guys do. There is a lot more info on shimming on the hcs forum. At 6k+ it is not beneficial as the turbo runs out of dense air to compress. The motor is built for around 217 and the turbo matches that. The only way to get more than that with a stock turbo is with timing in a reflash that also adjusts the elevation map in the stock ecu.

Enjoy the Evo stuff! When you are ready the next step of performance is adding the cold air intake. Most can't believe how much difference that makes.

At elevation, no. Telling the turbo "more boost" isn't the problem, it's the turbo making more boost. It's trying, it just can't, just makes heat when it can't compress the air.

How that would work at lower elevations I'm not sure, never had anyone ask. At that point it's just time for a BC turbo kit anyway lol :face-icon-small-hap
