I'm sorry but that "save our elk" website is absolute tripe. It's not referencing any scientific documents, other than a few pictures showing wolf chases and a graph showing a decline in the Banff elk population, which was absolutely out of control to begin with. I agree with that, seeing as I grew up in Banff. Not only that, but it's asking for doantions so they can conduct their own scientific studies, seeing as there seems to be none available that support their theories.

As far as the Idaho game population goes....

Before you let some sensationalism form your opinion, read both sides of it.

well i guess there was a reason us "ranchers" thinned them out in the past after all. I feel for the sportsman/women in Idaho and I hope that you can get it under control somehow unfortunantly there is alot of bleeding heart bastards in this word that just want to make a difference, you know really change something for the better. Ya right. So far here in south eastern oregon we've been doin a pretty dang good job of keeping them out. O and the SS&S season might just have to start pertaing to some yuppies that come chantin around here to!! Ya i'm redneck

We have way too many prairie dogs in Colorado do you think we could create a web page to make the prairie dogs out to be ruthless killers of the cute little Chipmunks, and then we would not have a prairie dog problem? Because the greenies would then hate the prairie dogs!

Just hang on a little while longer and the wolves will be there in Colorado and you won't have to worry about to much of anything ever again.

As far as I am concerned every one of the buggers should be shot and killed and then left there to rot and maybe something will come down and eat as less of them as they are of the elk. Hunting our elk has become a part of our lives we need to save that. And you can have your own opinions but this is mine and i think that they should let us have a season on them. I would buy as many as i could. Just like here in wyoming about the hound dogs getting eatin by these so called ecosystem helpers. They are dogs they just kill to kill. They don't kill to eat it is just for fun. When they re-introduced them to YNP, they knew that they weren't going to stay there. We need to open our eyes to this problem.

They've already got video of one on the CO WY line and I swear I saw tracks while hunting this year (5 mi S. of WY), but it may have been a big cat with claws out as my tracking skills are very poor. All I know is it made me cautious being up in the hills.

As far as your kids, I never let mine out of my sight anyway as we have cats around. I also carry and practice with a handgun for protection while fishing and hiking. Just because I'm paranoid doesn't mean there aren't boogy men following me. :)

My question is not really the elk, but more the cattle. If I was a wolf, I'd go for the big slow cow first. Is that what's happening as well?

Spud is right...the wolves have never left. They have been up the Ninemile valley, (out of Missoula) since the 70's.

Spud, that is a familiar pic.

I was in Calder I.D. eating lunch at a restaurant a couple of days ago and the owner said that that there were wolves that had killed a deer infront of a school bus stop. Luckely there wern't any kids there....this time.

what makes anyone think that they are going to just keep killing the elk and deer. They will eventually get tired of these and start coming into our towns and yards and coming after us.

Nah  10 outta 10 people in wyoming carry a gun

yep, gonna get tired of that overly abundant food source!!! and 90% of people are gonna quite going to the supermarket in favor of the farmer's market! i know they need to be managed, but that statement just makes no sense!

I'm glad to see that everyone here is an expert wildlife biologist and that no one thinks that Little Red Riding Hood is a true story.
Wolves are in this eco system and are here to stay. Get over it and get on with life.

This is true, they are here to stay yet they need to be managed if they are going to be here for the long haul. What is so stupid about this entire wolf reintro is that they were still here in SE Idaho years before they put them back in the park. Saw them in palisades area multi times from 88 to 93 then saw some again out of Thayne WY in the 97 season. They were coming back on their own. We had an imbalance before with not enough predators and to much prey but now from what I have seen here in SE ID the pendalum has swung way over into the to predators favor. In the area I bowhunt in I see almost as much wolf sign as I do deer and elk. Its sad to watch an area that in ten years has gone from one of the best trophy elk hunt areas where you would sometimes see 20 to 30 elk a morning to being lucky to see AN elk.The bulls don't bugle cause they have learned it lets the wolves know where they are. I for one believe in the SSS method.

what about those that don't carry guns with them? What do they do?

Well that thar question lyes the problem. It IS a problem. Its only gonna take 1 person to get killed by a wolf before its mass genocide on wild dogs. Wyoming Game&Fish have decided that this threat needs to be handled with care but intend on using full force.

I find it a bit ironic to call wolves sport killers. I can't remember the last time I saw hunter bypass the trophy bull and harvest the sickly one with bad genetics.

Call me what you want, but it might just be easier for the human population to adapt to nature then nature to adapt to us.
