RPM fading at 800 miles. New Belt and back to 100%

I think that we have all had these problems with the polaris 183 belt, I think that its a junk belt that is to hard. It slips in the primary and glazes the belt, not to mention that the primary has way to much clearance and the gearing is to high on the belt drive sleds! First belt made it 200 miles, broke it in perfectly, belt completely delaminated! Second belt made it about 300 miles, which may have been my fault, but then I put my inexpensive new Carlisle Ultimax XS809 belt on that I've had for 5 years and I gained 200 rpm's, held rpm's, and had better back shift than I have ever had :) I think that I'm done with that 183 belt!

NEW belt that you've had for FIVE years?? So then does this mean that this Carlisle belt you put on was actually a replacement for the 115 belt and not the 183? How much difference is there between the poo 115 &183....115 a better fit?

I lost 500 rpm, adjust deflection scuffed the sheaves and belt with emery washed the belt and gained back 400 rpm. I must've sprinkled pixie dust on it or something...

Good thought on washing the belt... With my belt at 800 miles and looking more or less like new I'll give er a good washing and carry it along as a spare. Not going to chance any more miles on it being it's gotta be close to being done anyway.

At $114 shipped, I'm going to give the new Gates carbon 45C.... belt a shot.

Yes it was just my back up belt, never used it until I put it on my AXYS. The 183 and 115 measure the same, the 115 is softer.

A rise in elevation of 1500 feet will tell you if the belt deflection is loose.
Today my sled pulls 8250 at 2500'. Good trackspeed (spanks buddies cat and pro's) can keep the ski's down with body English while climbing (#barhump)

Go up to 4000' wtf pulls 7950 with fade to 7600 on longer pulls.
Feels sluggish to respond and less fun.

Tighten deflection bam 8150-8200 rpm, trackspeed comes back, fun returns.
Grins resume.

Drop back to 2500 later in the day (better snow in the trees) pulls 8450 and the wheelieing becomes uncontrollable again.
(Think burandt turbo wheelie insta clip)

Hmm note to self new poo belts don't like loose deflection.

470 ish miles on sled.

Belt deflection should have nothing to do with peak rpm. It only effects what "gear" you are in from a dead stop. After that the primary pulls the belt into the secondary and way past the little stopper that adjusts deflection.

In a vacuum that makes sense to me also.

However results of actually tightening the deflection and seeing the change speak louder to me. :)

Believe whatever you want but if you see an rpm drop its definitely worth tightening the deflection first before chasing other issues.

I agree with this. The material they use seems like the exact same hard material Cat uses on their 084 belt. Which I hate that belt. Once it gets too hot it glazes over and drags down rpm whenever it gets hot again. It looks fine, but performs like crap. This is why I only use 083 belts in my Cats. I wish Polaris had the same type of compound for their belt. Might not last as long, but at 1/2 the price who cares. I might try that Carlisle belt in my axys.

Ive got over 700 miles on my 155, been all around the world with clutching trying to fix my rpm fade, today i removed my 120 340 spring, installed the 120 320 with a new belt BINGO, rpms r back and running strong again.

What brand spring? Slp/polaris springs dont hold up to the abuse of speedwerx h5 springs. Sack out quick in comparison

All stock springs by polaris, wierd thing is, i use a 911 cover that can adjust belt to sheave clearance to make up for a worn belt, but oddly enough a new belt with 0 adjustments on the cover has found my missing rpms.
