rmk 800 VE vs new sleds?

If your beating edges with your mm your not going to be happy with an m7 yes you may like the chassis. but not the power or torque. The edges do take more in put to ride, and yes they have crank troubles. that said do not buy a new 800 polaris as they are having mayjor issues as well and polaris is not fixing them . they have a pattern of doing this. The d7s i see run realy good but still lack the torque. Heres the deal over the next year there are going to be some great deals on these newer sleds. As economy continues to shrink more people will be forced out of sledding and there are, and will be even more sleds on the market at killer prices. If your one of the one that can keep going thats will be your best chance to buy at what would seem like a fraction of the price. Actually these days it looks alot like cat is the way to go.

Stock vs stock, or mod for mod, with equal track length; the new chassis will out perform the old chassis. I've had S chassis, ZX, Edge (including an '03 V/E), RT, and now an M8. Guys in our group still ride the older stuff and have a good time; but the SLP single piped 159" Edge in our group gets beat by the stock M7 in our group every time, other than on "hero snow". The deeper the pow the worse the beating. I'm not trashing the old stuff; ride whatever puts a smile on your face, and keeps you coming back for more. This is just what we have noticed in our own group over the years as some guys stuck with the older chassis and others moved on to the newer stuff.:beer;

if the older iron puts a smile on your face, that is great. i def am not trying to say only the new sleds are fun. heck, i'd rock a 20 year old sled if thats the only way i could get on the hill! again, i guess my only point is that if you are going to sell your current sled and looking to get a newer machine, i think it'd be worth it to get a newer style chassis. if you have a little bit older sled and love it and still dream about going riding, that's awesome too! :beer;

If it really is true that some are seeing stock M7's outperforming a single piped VE 800 I'd have to say that VE has some serious issues. I have yet to see any 700 hang with a PROPERLY set-up VE.

The RMK left in our group now is not an Escape; and with a good base they are close. But in the DEEP stuff the M7 (162 Attack 20 on the M7) floats so much better. I had an Escape (SLP twins, etc), loved it, great sled. But not near the powder sled, or boondocker that my M8 is. The M8 won't stand on it's tail and try to tear my arms off though like the Escape did.:eek::D

I would agree. I still have an 04 800 ve that does quite well.

True, but maybe we're still riding them because we think they're still worth a ****?

I've ridden M8's, XPs, Revs, Dragons, and Turbo Apexs and Nytros (and a N/A nytro, although only the engine was stock). I can certainly afford a new sled, but I like mine. The only sled I would consider switching to is a turbo M8...but it'd cost 10G more than mine is worth and would only slightly out perform it. (It'd be about 10lbs lighter and have 40 more HP when I'm not on the bottle, same when I am). So why "upgrade"?

What do you all have done to your sled? Cause unless your running a huge Gennessis engine or something, I highly doubt you could hang with the turbo M8's.:confused:

It's all chassis...

I have ridden Polaris for my whole life so I can't comment on any other brands. But what I can tell you is this:

I'm riding a 2007 600 HO 155 now. I had an 02 800 156 for 2 years before I got my "Lil Six". I would NEVER go back. Ever.

The IQ chassis is absolutely incredible for boondocking.

I have made technical climbs on my 600 that I could never do on my 800 Edge. Simply because the chassis is so much more nimble.

Go with the new chassis even if you have to step down in power to afford it. It will be a lot of fun when you put that sled in places your buddies on Edge 800's can't go. Trust me!

How many 1M riders were in this same predicament including myself?
How could a big guy like myself go from the King Cat 900 to a little M7?
How many people said that the M7 goes anywhere the King will go?
Well I can tell you its the newer M chassis. I was completly in love with my King Cat till I purchased my M7. I even got the 153 and I really dont miss the 162.
Its not that the older chassis' arent fun, the newer ones are just so much better.

Now I'm back to the same delima. I want a new M8 but why when my 7 is so fun? Anyone on a '09 M8 that came off an M7? Does the chassis fill any better? I havn't got the chance to ride one.

i'm looking to get a new sled..i originally wanted a m7 or 8, or summit 800 (rev), but they are all pretty spendy.. i see smokin deals on rmk 800's everywhere, are the newer sleds really that much better? i can go anywhere on my mountain max..will a rmk 800 be much better than my mountain max? i really want a sled that i can huck off jumps, boondock through anything, and climb fairly well (no vertical chutes or anything like that..) i know it's mostly rider..but i want something that does all these things better than my mountain max..save my self some energy lol. so is the rmk 800 v.e. the way to go or go towards the rider forward sleds?

oh..and i really want a pull and go sled like my yami..i really don't want to be putting money into a sled unless it's aftermarket parts i want, fuel, or oil.

I have the 08 and 09 D8, and ride with guys on 08 and 09 skidoo and cats, and there are guys we ride with that still have the 04 to 06 models of all three, it is not even the same animal anymore. unless you never get off the trail.

no contest, pony up the doe and buy a new sled you won't be sad.

i have an 09 M8 my sister has an 06 M7. the M8 rides a hole lot better on the trail and has alot more power than the M7, in the deep they handle very similiar but the M8 will go farther, faster.

I agree with the crowd here, I love my D8. I had an 02 800 RMK that I spent a pile of money on to get it the way I wanted, thought I would ride it forever. After riding the Dragon for a couple of years the old RMK just feels clumsy and heavy.

Sounds like your mind is already made up but... I love my 03 Escape. It's been a good sled, hasn't given me any problems at all. Yes, I'm tearing the motor down and getting the big bearing mod done this year, but mostly because I'm paranoid and want to KEEP my reliable, problem free sled that way. Mine is all stock, except for SLP intake mods. I ride with a couple guys on XP's most of the time and the only big difference is my sled tends to trench a little more... could probably fix that by setting up the suspension (not ot mention they are both running the 163's so they have a bit of flotation advantage on me).

Well here is my $0.02. I have owned several edge platforms and here is my opinion. Was a nice platform in its day. Hell in its day it was awesome. My 700 rmk is still in the shop and it is a kids/loaner sled. That said its day is over. One word. They called it the "Revolution" for a reason. I have a rev 04' chassis that I use as a ditch banger and I like the sled alot. Very comfortable rider position, great power and very predictable handling. They can be found at very affordable prices. Now I have a new IQ and love it. Hands down best sled I have ridden (for me).

some good point here,bottom line is how much power you want and how much money you can spend......my old kingcat bb would sure make the guys running new sled pissed ,they couldnt touch were I can go.but now a friend is doing a turbo dragon so see what this season brings,I am expecting to be outclimbed,but thats a pile of money to do it.I will have to get spanked consistantly to upgrade.eventually, just waiting till then...
