RK Tek Head Question

I have never run higher compression before but I just picked up a new head for my 800R with 14:1 domes. Headed to IP in two weeks and my question is about the octane I should run. Planning on filling up with 91 octane and dumping an octane boost in with it just to be safe. Should be around 93-94 octane I figure.

So - am I going to be safe down low at that octane?? Will I HURT performance running the octane boost?? I have heard some sleds run worse on higher octane fuel.

Main reason I was going to run the octane boost was just to make sure I didn't hurt my motor if I happened to get some bad gas or whatever. Basically just a safety measure. I want to ride the whole time I am out there and don't want to be spending time wrenching.

Thanks for the help.

I know that Kelsey with RkTech told me that I would be fine running the 14-1 head at low elevations on the trail to higher elevation. Said 91 octane was fine and did not need any more. He said if it worried me to flip the choke up to 1/2 position from time to time. I never had any problems at all with mine. Also I beleive Island park is quite high in elevation is it not.

I don't think you will have anything to worry about, I rode IP a few years ago with my 05 Summit Rev with the RKT drop in kit and 14:1 domes. I had the jetting dialed in and it did just fine on 91 octane. Just make sure the gas you are putting in does not have ethenol in it.

ip

just so you know you cant buy gas any more with out ethanol in it i cant remmember if it is 7 or 10 percent its a new fed law and 14 to1 is fine at 6000 feet and above on 91 if you are gonna ride lower you might want to add some octane but if i was adding octane it would be with 100octaneLL av gas or 110 race gas because some octane boosts dont add any octane and i have seen high comp engines detonated apart when they used octane booster and deto also takes out bearings and the av gas dosent build as much power as with 110 but you wont detinate it with it my 02cents
have a great day dan

Yes you can buy ethanol free gas. Its not a federal law. In oregon its is legal to run 92 ethanol free in your car not all stations carry it ,but more and more are poping up.
Before it was legal to run in your car it was sold as off road use olny.
Pretty sure u can get it in Idaho also.

Montana is ethonol free also, you can buy it there but it is not mandated. If it is in the gas it has to be on the pump.
