Riding with a guide.

Who has ridden with a guide, and what were your experiences?

Seems like the guides would run out of "secret spots" eventually! Bill Bob and Joe get a guide and the guide takes them to his "secret spot". They all have a grand time! End of the day they tip the guide and go on their way. Next day ride on their own and probably go back to the guides "secret spot" on their own.
Not really a secret spot anymore is it?

I can see where a guide would be valuable if you drove 1400 miles to a new area and only had a couple days to ride, but doesn't make sense to me to get a guide year after year. I see many people that get guides year after year and not go out on their own and explore new country and find their own "secret spot"!
Nothing against guides and renting guides, just wanted your thoughts.

they are more for newbies not you and me. i have guided before for some extra cash i had never even been to the area before

Only went with a guide once, and that was because we rented sleds from him. Not sure how secret his spots were, but he did show us some good areas out of the fog.

i would say if you were traveling the long distance and were spending some big money it would be worth it not to waste time trail riding. if i drove a couple of days i sure would want to do more than ride the roads looking for the good spots.
