???Riding Togwotee/Crooked Creek Areas???

Our group of three want to ride the Continental Divide. We are thinking about spending 4 nights at Crooked Creek and then trailer up to TML and stay there for 4 nights. I was told it is 30 miles by trail between the two. Our goal is to do as much off trail riding as possible and explore the Crooked Creek riding areas and the Togwotee riding areas on separate days without worrying about gas and putting on a ton of trail miles. We are coming out of Northern MN so we would like to think we are trying out two different riding areas that are close to each other. Anyone have an opinion one way or the other?:face-icon-small-hap
Where are your favorite riding areas?:face-icon-small-ton

We also might try a Alpine, Island Park shot for another trip. Need more Over Time.

You probably couldn't even touch 10% of the terrain just riding out of Crooked Creek in 4 days. I wouldn't reccommend doing a lot of off trail exploring if you plan to ride from CC to TML. However, it would definitely be worth trailering up toward TML, the terrain is a little different, and usually the snow is deeper the closer you get to the Divide.

Correct on the 45 miles. If this is your first time out west just stay at CC. You will have more then enough area to play in. I have been going to CC/Line Shack for 10yrs I find new places every yr out there. TML is awesome but in my opinion to busy at times. You can ride from CC to TML its a days ride and you will need to get fuel at TML. Depending on the trail conditions it can be a rough long ride.

One thing to keep in mind if you go to TML there avy dangers are more high then riding out of CC. Just and FYI.

I'm Pro8250's son and will be one of the three going on the tip, the other isy friend. We are both 18 and can ride very well. We all have avalanche gear and knowledge too. We go to Cooke city usually twice a year, but have recently been to island park too. My main concern about CC isn't of area size, but if the snow will be deep enough. We are going to arrive on jan 3rd. We will be Riding a 13' pro rmk, 11' pro rmk, and 11' M8.

Just got back from crooked creek and they have a really good start. We rode over the hood pow both days. I don't think your going to have to worry about snow conditions. 8 days straight of riding?! I didn't know that was humanly possible for us flatlanders! Were staying at TML this weekend to see what that area has to offer.

Pro8250, 5 of us are leaving from Duluth on Dec. 26 for Crooked Creek. Staying at least til the 3rd of Jan. Look for a black Dodge crew with a black Stealth inline, we'll let ya know what we've found. Been goin to Cooke lately, but as I remember TML to CC is nothin' for a flatlander trail rider.

Are there some pretty good pulls, and nice steep slopes to sidehill in the crooked creek area? How does it compare to Cooke City or Tog. We have been to both, DO NOT LIKE TRAIL RIDING.

My friends and I prefer to stay at The Line Shack. They are right down the road from eachother. But both are good places though.

just returned at this am from Crooked. They have mega-snow and are getting a lot more now. Tons of untouched. Went to Tog for lunch... tons of snow and unfortunately sleds.

Lodging

Were planning a last minute trip to the togwatee area . Can anyone tell me about The Line Shack ? Looks good on the web site , just looking for some feedback (good or bad ) Thanks

Riding areas ?

Can anyone give a couple suggestions for hill climbing near Line Shack / Crooked creek area? Going on my first trip to this area and will be there riding 12/28 thru 12/31. Thanks in advance for any suggestions you can provide! Going with some guys that are good riders but never been to the moutains! This should be a treat from what I hear about the snow conditions?

I hope everyone has beacons and probes and knows how to use them. Avalanche training, communication, and awareness is a must. Have a plan!
Have a blast and make it home safe. :face-icon-small-ton

X2 on the riding areas, and hill climbing. First time out there is coming up in just over a week. Would be nice to have some ideas of where to head.

Ive grown up riding and guiding that vast area my whole life. Riding the Continental Divide can be tricky at times!! My goodfriend Cameron Chimenti grew up in those Mtns also and is guiding up there. He has "3C Guiding" and you can find on facebook. Its a small investment compared to how much you spend on the total trip. Just trying to keep up with a guide all day is priceless. Then the next couple days you just go w/o guide and explore! Atleast thats what everyone Ive guided told me which made sense!
Tell Cameron I sent ya
Enjoy!
