Were planning a trip out to the Dutch Creek Ranch in Clark, CO on the 13th of Jan. This will be our first trip to this area, have always rode in the Big Horns and Cooke city. What kind of riding can we expect? Is it best to haul or drive the sleds down to Rabbit Ears or is there good riding right by the ranch? Also what are the snow conditions around there now? Thanks ALot!!

There is riding around Dutch Creek. Ride around Steamboat Lake to Steamboat Lake Outfitters. It's a gas/rental/store etc... The trails start at the outfitters. They or the state park office should have maps of the area and be able to answer any questions you have. Be carefull off trail in the area. They have been logging a lot of the beetle kill pine out and haven't cleaned up after themselves. Rabbit ears is great riding, but you will have to trailer to it. About 1 1/2 hrs drive each way from Dutch Creek. BTW, Riding around Dutch Creek you can get to Encampment, WY. You will need a Wyoming registration if you go that far. We'll be up there the weekend of the 23rd. Let me know how it is. The link below has current conditions.

Head west from dutch creek. West of the lake I think is the best riding. Couple miles on the trail and the boondocking thru the pines starts there. Or go further towards California Park and you will see popple trees on your left. Head off the trail there and work your way to California Park. No need to trailer anywhere. We go to this area every year. Lots of boondocking, not alot of extreme open climbs. Awesome food at Dutch Creek. Where you from?

Heading west to California Park is my favorite riding in that area, also. Some of the best aspen boondocking you can find ..

The meals at the lodge are killer !

You need to contact "Zoomie" here on Snowest. You're best bet for the best information about the area up there.

I believe he lives up there, versus just riding the area.

Great terrain and excellent snow!! Had a blast up there last year.

Enjoy!
