avy

... well maneged to get out there for the day wish i hadnt... guy went up half way up the hill got stuck another guy went up and and around him and cut a huge slab off and down she came ... RIP boys you passed away doing the thing you loved to do best.. heart goes out to all the family's who have had loved ones pass away from sledding

as far as i know that is chads sled. i parked my sled right beside where he was laying down from his injuries. and his sled looked in no condition to be rode out.

Was that the 1200 in the pic, it could have been his turbo cat that he lent out, maybe I seen a different picture ???

All my prayers to the families of all involved. This sport is a small community and a tragic event like this affects us all.Few words can discribe my grief felt for those pressent at the time.

I REALLY HOPE that's not true.

I wish people wouldn't do that.

I've heard people say this one before and I know what you mean by it....but I don't think it's of a lot of condolence right now.

To paraphrase someone else on here recently,
I'm sure they weren't thinking "well this is a great way to go" as they were sliding down the mtn. I'm sure they were probably thinking "oh god, I'm never going to see my family again."

I was there to experience this tragic event first hand.

Its something I never want to go through again. I still cant believe i was able to start my sled and move out of the path of the slide with out harm. Several of my friends weren't so lucky, but everyone managed to survive with minor injuries, with only one in the hospital in critical condition.

There's no words to describe the feeling the few minutes after it happens. Climbing up on top of the mountain of snow seeing only a few people in sight. That there could be 100+ people buried alive underneath my feet.

To paraphrase someone else on here recently,

Very true.....was actually just about to the top and got stuck, and another friend of mine was just about to walk down from the top, looked, saw how steep it was, and thought he wouldn't get back up to the top. So he walked back to his sled, was going to drop over, heard someone coming up, and figured he should wait. The other sledder cut to the right of my stuck friend and then above him, at that time letting it loose. The rest, well you know......the other person comfirmed dead was at the bottom with my group of friends, 6 of witch were taken to the hosptal, one flown to Calgary. My son and I were scheduled to be there but bailed at the last minute mostly because of my healing achilles tendon.

Very sad.....I just cant believe someone cut about him like that, I can only imagine what he was thinking. Same thing happen to me a few years ago a turbo and my sled crapped out about 1/2 up, and up comes another smuck,,,,,scared the lieving crap out of me.

I just can't believe it.

Exactly, one person in the group I was supposed to be with was swept under, and that's EXACTLY what he said......was thinking about his family and that this was it. Fortuneately and thanks to god, he came back up, stood up, and ended up only knee deep in snow, a little banged up, but okay.

Please lets not place blame:face-icon-small-sad

Ironman, your sentiment may be appropriate right now, but after this mess is cleaned up, I think some questions as to why this event was not canceled or rescheduled need to be asked. After reading the previous posts about 'extreme avalanche danger warnings', I certainly wonder why safety was not a concern for the event coordinators.

This is horrible to hear...prayers to the friends and families of the ones that didn't make!

I was really happy to hear that everyone has been accounted for and it was 2 not 3 dead. 2 is too many but it sounds like it could have been A LOT worse.

Today would be a good day to go to church if you made it or avoided the event for whatever reason.
