Revelstoke Avalanche

One more request for an update on the Avy Bag, Could you please include the age of the bag, manufacturer and if it has been fired without changing anything from the ride??? do you have any guess on what the malfunction that caused it not to deploy?

Also you mentioned turning off the beacon after the first person was located. I would like to point out that there is a big oversight to doing that, If there is another avy and your beacon is turned off there is nothing transmitting your location. I am unsure about the Orthovox beacons but I use the BCA trackers and if you turn them on and hold down on the option button it will go into a AR function where the beacon will search for 5 minutes and then auto revert to transmit. It is on page 8 of the manual. I only mention this to further everybody's knowledge and because it is often not mentioned in the avy classes.

Glad you all made it out safely, please make sure the snowpack has stabilized before trying to retrieve the sleds!!

Beacon

Nice catch on the beacon Snowbyrd.4 buds looking out for each other great job guys and better ending.

Good ending to a bad day... glad all got out ok, how's your buddies knee?

I too would be interested in what type of Avy bag didn't work...

I hope you got your sleds out of there with all this new snow, if not, you won't see them until summer.

Another good reason why to buy the pieps dsp 6.2, one of the better units to search for multiple signals. Not only does it separate signals but you can mark them so you can search for the next signal.

However 2 signals close together may still be confusing as you mark one then bingo another signal in the same spot? I will need to do some testing with 2 sending units very close to one another.

Glad everyone made it out safe, would also be interested in the bag issue.

One thought that came to mind that if the bad did go off, I am sure it would have prevented a total bury but would the bag have kept you at the surface thus allowing you to be swept over the cliff?

Tues
