Reported Avalanche: Superbowl

The avalanche happened on avalanche or yamaha hill, it is north of super bowl, on the map by humpy peak. Closer to Chalk Creek on that ridge. There are no big hills to the east of Double hill, only to the south. The one to the south of Double slides all of the time but is not where this avalanche was.

the hill jus to the left of the double hill is what I thought was avalanche hill because last year me and my friends were riding on it and left then came back a few minutes later and there was a slide. A guy on an XP set it off high marking our tracks . we sat at the bottom and talked to him and he said "that's why they call it avalanche hill" .

Yea, thats not Avalanche it's just a part of Double hill. Dont ever climb it though it is a very tempting hil, but have seen it slide way to many times in person. Actually had a friend get buried on that hill years ago. We were able to dig him out ok. Just a nasty hill when it comes to slides.

oh sweet thanks for the info ...
where you on the m7 ?

you can see yamaha hill in the back right of sledhead ut 's pic right by the circle i believe .??? avalanche hill is back east on the outside of the super bowl next to the "double hill" which would be below the thumb tack of double hill on gp's google image at the very bottom right corner of the google image ...yamaha hill would be to the left of the "moffit basin " text on the google earth image

anyone have GPS coords for each of these spots??
sure would help clarify the confusion about which hilll is which...

There's a Google Earth overview in Craig Gordon's accident report. You can find it on our web page under "Current Conditions/Accidents".

I'm not 100% familiar with the area, but from what I can tell, that is the same hill I triggered more than 5 years ago.
I climbed from the left to scope out the cornice.
From the top all I saw was white... Looked over the edge and the whole thing slid before my eyes.
Luckily no one was on or at the bottom.
There was a fracture from the cornice all the way under my sled.
I was smart enough to park where I could see brush, Babied the sled away from the cornice.
We stayed off the hills after that which was a good thing... An hour or 2 later we helped dig out 2 guys who got burried in the superbowl area.
Same hills we stayed off of slid... 2 guys on the hill at 1 time.

Mike, I posted before as that day been my first avy experiance. Till this day I still remember looking up to see you come off then BAM! here she comes. 2 Avys in 1 day was too crazy for me. Then Kyle (RIP) event. One guy at a time for sure.

See if this clears it up

David Balls died back in the Super Bowl area.

The 15 yr. old died on Yamaha Hill.

The slide in my pics on this page with me in it, is the far left of Double Hill.
