Recommend me a 600 cc mountain sled for my girlfriend

Definitely let her try out the different sleds. What you might be comfortable on, may not work for her. You know she doesn't like your Nytro, and it could be that way with some other chassis. If she gets to try them out herself, then you know you will be getting something she likes, will feel comfy on, will work to improve her skills, and will want to get out and ride. :)

The M6 is an awesome sled....I've ridden an 08' M6 153 for the last two seasons. It has reverse, handles like a dream, can go most places the bigger sleds go the only thing I wish it had was about 20 more hp!! Your girlfriend will love the sled, will boost her confidence and make her a better rider. She can ride it for a couple of seasons then she'll probably want an M8. Another little tidbit.....the M7 topend bolts right on to the M6 bottom end, just need to run a fuel controller to bypass the M6 computer. Will boost the hp up to about 140 hp from 118 hp. We have all the parts to change mine over but have decided we are trading in the M6 on a 2010 M8 Snopro 162 for the hubby and I'll be riding his 08' M8 this year. The 700 parts will go on our sons M6 in a couple years when he's ready.

My advice is you can't go wrong with the M6 for a good starter sled. :):):)

Doo 600, 2007 & up

P00 600 2007 & Up.

I recommend staying away from the M6. Our expereinces were very dramatic against the M6, it being the worst.

Doo the following; it may seem spendy to you, but for about $400, you avoid buying a sled she will not like ($7500 +;))

Arrange to rent / test all 3 at the same time, we did, hands down, DOO was the choice due to ride, comfort & Power. This is easy enuf to doo, go to where a dealer/rental is available for all 3. Let HER make the choice as to which feels best for HER. :cool:

So ... what have you decided?

Well i was looking at the older Polaris RMK's until i found out they were carbed with a dpm. Then i looked at the m6s and the summit 600 sdi's. I have also started looking at the 800 cc sleds as well.

To be honest I am not sure what I am going to buy yet, just keeping an eye out for a great deal to jump on.

I will need to get something in the next month or two though because it like her Phazer MTX is sold.

Poo & Doo

I don't know about arctic cat but i know the polaris 600 H.O. and the ski doo 600 SDI are both stellar motors! The IQ chassis is super easy to lay over and the REV doesn't take a whole lot of work either! All in all i don't think you could go wrong with arctic cat, polaris, or ski doo. All the 600's seem to be pretty reliable sleds if you treat em right.

I ended up buying a 2006 Summit SDI 600 with 1344 miles on it locally.

Great choice. Some fine tuning tips will make this a superb handling sled for her.

Add a riser, yes riser, even for shorter ladies, a higher handle bar allows them to overcome not having the strength that a man uses for handling purposes and utilize leverage, my wife is 5'2" & she uses the 10 inch riser on her XP ;) On your Rev try a 2 inch for now.

If she is < 130 lbs, try the following and make minor adjustments for her and ask her if it feels better;
  • Unhook & remove the sway bar
  • Frt shocks on about 3/4 firmest setting
  • Ski's on the narrow mount
  • Front shock on the rear susp on lightest setting
  • Limiter strap in the 3rd to last hole
  • Rear cogs on the next to lightest slot
  • Loosen the track to where you can slip 2 fingers between the bottom of the rail & track at the scissor brackett mount location
If she is >130 lbs, same as above but adjust;
  • Front shocks on firmest
  • Front shock on the rear susp on 3/4 lighest setting
    [*]Rear cogs on the next to middle slot

I suggest lightening it up for her, many items you can doo dependant upon the amount of $$ you care to spend;
  • Remove all foam
  • Remove plastic noise panels inside motor area
  • Remove sway bar (4 lbs)
  • Remove tail lite & add LED = $5 (5 lbs)
  • Remove pipe insulation & ceramic coat it = $75 (4 lbs)
  • HPS can w/ O2 sensor bung = $250 (10lbs)
  • 2 wheel big wheel kit = $75 (4 lbs)
  • Hiperfax & Remove all bogies = $150 (5lbs)
  • Boss Seat = $350 (7 lbs)
  • SLYDOG trail Ski's = $350 (3 lbs)
Hope this helps, good luck and safe sledding to ya!:cool:

Wow great post Idaho Slim! It's very much appreciated!

What setting do you recommend the torsion bars be set at? She is 135 - 140 lbs and is 5 ft 7.

Thats what I call the "cogs",

"Rear cogs on the next to lightest slot" for now, ask her if it bottoms out, if it does, click it one more slot tighter. Check to see when see sits/steps onto the sled if the back end drops 1-2 inchs, if so that is good.

My set-up suggestions are the #1 item I would doo.

#2 is getting her some Slydogs, you want to make this sled feel good to her.

#3. HPS can. lighter & power response

:D:cool:

Any modern chassis machine with electric start...from 1000 cc down to 600 cc. There was a day when women struggled handling a larger sled. That day is over. They still have trouble turning over the big pistions...so do some men...electric start.

So why the slydog skis? I thought the pilot were a great ski?

To each his own. We can only speak from our experiences. 08 M6 all the way. Nothing but luck with my wife's. Here is a pic of her sled.
