real world clutching vs axys manual

I called Slp!! Talked to them,, Used there parts an advise for years!!!
There R&D has always been exceptional ...

My 16, I had them put there Clutch set up into the clutches, also had them
BALANCE THE PRIMARY CLUTCH,, as I have always done on all my sleds...
Sled set up is 10,000 an above.. always felt they nailed it every time.

I have no miles on this sled Yet!!
Will be breaking it in,, bout two weeks, Snowies.

So if Rpm is off a little, + or -
There just a phone call away, an adjust top of hill.

FWIW: I found them to be pretty close on there kits... EVERYTIME

I also sent slp a email today, i tried 68 mtx loaded to 71.5 and it was close, im thinking about trying thier 71s and load the tip as needed, im waiting for a reply

Geo brought up the same question to me in a phone call, idk, im not a cluthing god. How many grms have u tried in revy?

Running the stock 64s with the stock Polaris belt i was 8450-8550. With the cat belt it settled down a bit around 8300.

Soon as I break it in i'll try my set of MTX weights in it, be interesting to see what it will pull, then its on to split helix testing, I can't believe it would not run better with a split than a straight, however we will see how it resopnds. fun times ! :face-icon-small-hap

Stock Clutching for 6-8000 seams spot on. After break-in was running 8250 RPMs with 64's at 7000' on steeps climbs.

I did a pre season check on my buddy Seans AXYS before he headed out of town...

His deflection was WAY off... and... the clutches and belt had some sort of oil-ish/waxy film on them... I pulled the belt... washed it with Super-clean/hot-water/stiff-brush... then wax and grease remover on the clutch faces... followed by scotch brite and then a final wipe with acetone on clean cloths till no residue... put it all back together.

While in there... I popped in 2 delrin washers between the spring cup and clutch on his secondary.... and re-torqued his primary...set the tension on his track... greased the heck out of the rear skid, silicone on the exhaust donuts.... all the boring stuff.

He also had the shock oil changed out to Amsoil "shock therapy"... but I didn't do that for him... good idea though for a better shock longevity.

I was impressed with the improvement in build quality of the sled from the previous generation.

Mountain Horse is an excellent source of experience tied to some basic and some complex procedures that all add up to real life improvements. Its easy to put shinny things on our sleds that really do nothing but look cool and lighten our wallets.

After receiving dozens of Axys clutch's to balance this season it is clear the method used to build Polaris clutch's is consistent. Belt deflection is all over the boards and we correct most every clutch that comes through the door. Have seen .030"+ down to .020". We always correct them to +/- .004". It seems to me to be wasted energy to have it any larger. As for balance, it too is a crap shoot. Have seen as much as 8 grams on the front plane and 5 on the fixed plane down to 1 to 2 grams. We can live with 1-2 grams but 8 grams is really pushing the envelope in my opinion. We add in the Happyface tight tolerance bolt bushing and washer and the clutch is good to go. For the riders who are really into the clutch cooling we add the HF billet clutch cover.

As for clutch kits, I like to see people run the sled and come back with a list of things it isn't doing right for them. We look at rider weight, elevation, riding style, RPM at engagement and WOT, back shift and so on. I have replaced a lot of clutch kits with the stock setup. The stock clutching is pretty good for most riders. As for the belts we should always wash a new belt in hot soapy water. Mostly we don't, but we should.

Thanks again MtnHorse for your insight.

Lynn - curious what your take is on the Zollinger clutch cover as well as what it costs to have a clutch rebalanced? I've always wanted to really go to that next level on clutching but regrettably have never done so.

I have and can clutch this sled all over the board and see the best track speed clutched @ 8380- RPMs @ 9,300 ft- ( straight up bottomless powder) but.... where is this motor supposed to spinning??
Reading here I see different RPM's all over the board - and a lot of aftermarket different curves ( Stock) ( on the sites of their praise)
So for elevation -- where is this motor supposed to be? - for me 8150-8200 leaves a lot on the table when i turn it up another 150 RPM;s

Here is what the DT was - and what I got from HCS forum....

The DT report Is out and ready to read.
Here’s top hp.

In conversation with geo, his oppion is 8000 to 8100 unless the pipe is hot, meaning wot for more than 30 second, if the pipe is hot than 8250.

Tree riding (as an example) it's only 8100/ as your in/out of the throttle pretty much. ( makes sense)
But for the hills we climb (not chutes by any means but about 20 seconds WOT) here in the mountains 8250?
I saw and recorded up to 7mph track speed loss @ 8200 vs 8380 with 2.6 @ 2.25 G/R (Stock Pipe just a light weight can)

best clutching for SKS

I'm currently in break in mode, but i actually yet trie to find out the right clutching configurations for the normal riding. My riding Areas are between 2000ft and 5000ft. the clutch is now original polaris 64gr and the black spring. I looked at the slp site for their recommendations and they offer for riding from 3000 to 6000ft 68gr and the blue/red spring with 140/320 Ratio. What do you think, will this fit also for my area????

Jfyi, im in that 3 to 4500 range, im on a 155 2.6 , can, everything else stock, and im running 70.5 grm bikeman, 2 mag per hole, and still over tacking, im even considering loosing some weight and try the gold spring, maybe the stock 64s might be the answer.

4000-6000ft
10-70 epi weights
120/340 spring
Running slp pipe/can. Pulls 8250 at 5500ft
Using cat 048 belt

Stock AXYS 155 2.6 running at 10,000 feet, I am running 62g belly busters with a team bright green spring (150-340). Stock 40 degree helix with Team Black purple spring (160-240) with delrin washers. Running the Gates Carbon Belt. Sled is running 8,250 rpm and back shifting really well. Just put on the SLP pipe and can last night so I will adjust for that and post my results.

Would like to hear back on this, how many miles and hours do you have on it, thanks!

I initially tried that Team Bright Green with BB's cut to 62.4 @ 9300-9800' and found it to engage around 5100- is that what your seeing with the lighter 62 BB's? I dropped to the Team yellow ( 140) and am about 4500 I am liking the gain @ 8350rpm's we are seeing

Has anybody tried the pol gold spring 100 275? Pol calles for this spring at 2000 feet with 70grms, was thinking of trying it with a 68 grm weight.
