Rabbit Ears???

You hit the nail right on the head! Perfect. You can't hate people for wanting to ride. If yiou don't want to deal with it go during the week or get up there at the crack of dawn.

On another note, is it CDOT's responsibility for to plow those lots? Do they get compensated by CSA or State Parks through our registration?

Their compensation comes from tax on the fuel we burn in our sleds.

I got up there too late to have any chance of a decent spot, but I just turned around and headed over to Buff. I live right in town though, I felt bad for the guys who drove from who knows how far and showed up to that scene.

Not really sure how the compensation works, but I heard they have been having some friction with the Forest service over clearing the lots and that has led to the problems we're seeing this year. I appreciate them doing it, without them we wouldn't be riding there at all, but it seems we're a lower priority than some of the other lots (skier lots).

That is because the twig fairies bring so much revenue into Routt County. NOT!!!!

Guy's, be careful what you wish for. I completely understand wanting to be selfish when the big dumps finally come, but remember, it is still revenue that is being brought in to your communities. If I were a local business owner in the industry, I would be marketing every snow squal that came over the mountain as the next biggest dump of the year. My group has spent over 20 days in Steamboat again this year and I estimate that we probably pumped a little over $10,000.00 into your communities. We always try to support the local businesses, eat at locally owned establishments and stay away from the franchises. One of our guys even traded sleds while we were there in February. We look at it as a privelage to share the good days with all of you and are constantly willing to help out any fellow rider in need. We are respectful of the areas we ride in and the other people enjoying them as well. It is to bad that a few bad apples can spoil the majority of the basket.

As for the parking, I am behind you guys 100%. We have always said that you are fighting a tough battle with the large number of greenies in the state. We need to stick together and fight for common ground, wether it be additional parking, clearing the ones we have in a timely manner, or fighting to keep areas open for us to ride. If we show weakness within it will only give them fuel for their fight against us. The greenies have certainly done well to protect their precious forest by running the loggers out, only to allow the Pine Bark Beetle to prosper, but they are probably trying to figure out how that is the sportsman's fault as well.

Ralph, keep preaching, some will eventually get it, and those who don't should be weeded out by natural selection any way. Best of luck with the job search.

one big problem this year is money.CDOT laid off a bunch of plow drivers and is working the area with a minimal crew to cover a huge area.

That isn't it. CDOT has always made the Sled lots their last priority. I have been riding up there a long time and I see what happened last weekend every year. Should be used to it by now but I'm not.
