Rabbit Ears weekend reports

Find a way to make money off of the people and then and it won't hurt so bad :face-icon-small-hap j/k

Kidding aside - I typically ride the worst area known to snowmobiling for tourists - (Snowys) because that is where our cabin is. You guys at RE have it easy IMO. On holiday weekends we ride the tightest, nastiest areas to get away from the crowds and have an absolute blast. If something is tracked up - who cares - good for them, we'll try to beat them to it next storm. It's snowmobiling - it's supposed to be a fun sport. In a few years when my kid starts riding I will probably be looking for tracked up stuff so I don't have to dig her heavy yamaha electric snowmobile out as often....

You can have your Snowies. Tourons or not, I hate that place. 5 times out of 5 the conditions have sucked azz! I don't like my odds.

Lemme guess - you either have crappy luck with hitting it when it hasn't snowed OR all 5 times when you have gone up there it was snowing like hell and the wind was blowing 50mph and you still trudged up the mountain and parked above Centennial and rode all the open areas on the top of the mountain.

I really don't give a ratz azz where you ride - I was just pointing out that you guys don't have it as bad as you think you do on RE - it could be worse.

Carry on.

Wow... Who would have guessed that asking about the snow on Rabbit Ears could go in so many tangents.

So here's my two cents...

1) If you can't find any powder at Rabbit Ears or the Snowies then you need to look harder. We found lots of untracked powder last weekend at the Snowies even though everyone with a sled from NE, SD and IA was there.

2) If you are out of state... WELCOME!!! I enjoy exploring new places and I hope you enjoy CO. If you have any questions, just ask. Hopefully you will return the favor next time I am sledding out of state.

3) Everyone should ride Vail Pass. Getting dirty looks from skiers, being surrounded by wilderness and paying to park is lots of fun. But seriously, don't just ride, PARTICIPATE in a snowmobile club or something and help keep what areas we have left open and not turning into Vail Pass. If you don't the skiers will be the only ones at the meetings and they will shut us down sooner or later.

4) It's gonna be a good weekend. Lets see some more snow reports and pictures.

See you on the mountain.

I grew up in Meeker and now live in Utah. So when I go visit my mom and ride RE or Black Mountain or the Flat Tops am I an out-of-stater?????

I rode Re last weekend. Found untouched snow, but it was settled and very hard. I imagine that some places got "rotten" with this last 5 day bout with -40 temps.

No real snowstorms in the forecast and it's still -10 out. Hope February brings some better snowfall than January did.

Well, Damn!!!

That changed overnight. Yesterday it was saying slight chance. OH WELL. Maybe Monday. Ball n Chain is working tomorrow, and I have a pile of Netflix to watch Sunday so I can avoid all the Super Bowl BS and starting a clean-up and rebuild on a 440 Panther for Parker.

My back hurts, theres not enough snow, I need my bankey. Too many excuses Ralph!!! :ballchain: won't let me. Suckit up and go ride!!! Just bustin yer ballz buddy! We'll bust some pow for ya this w/e.

Anytime you wanna go to school Noah. I'll take ya. You working Monday??

And FYI, it ain't the back so much. I got Vitamin V for that. It's the puke that keeps spewing forth and upwards from my belly. I seem to have gotten that Stomach virus from Hunter.

Rode RE yesterday, along with a full parking lot of others.
Basically, there were tracks all over the open places and pretty set up most places.

Then we took the trail from Muddy to the east. When we came to the intersection, we jumped on the road and took that down SE.

We jumped off the road before the hairpin, and found lots of untracked soft snow there. Some of it was in the open, but most of it was in the trees and was awesome!

We were in knee deep snow for close to 3hrs back there, and 98% of the tracks back there were ours when we came out shortly after dark.

Lot of folks in the parking lot saying the snow wasn't very good, but they just didn't look in the right places I guess.

I hated riding in the trees before yesterday, now I love it!

Snow otta be pretty good up there tomorrow.

I came all the way over today but the guys I was gonna ride with got shut down on I70 and couldn't make it ...

Wouldn't have mattered though, the visibility was really really bad when I got there at about 10:15am and even worse when I left at about 1:30 pm or so..

I just dinked around with the turbo a little bit right next to the parking lot to make sure I had it all put back together right then left for home :(

It will be good up there tomorrow! We rode up on Black today snowed over a foot while we were up there will post picks in a few in another thread!

Here's an update for Ralph:
The snow is junk, stay home and watch movies!!!
And for the rest of you guys, 1 to 3 feet of fresh, deepest day of the year for me anyhow. All the snow plows must off today RE Pass was a mess, lot was not plowed although it was empty I could not believe how empty it was up there today. I had to dig the truck out before I left. Great ride Tyler until next time..
