Quieting Aftermarket Cans?

I read that MI DNR is going to be heavily testing exhaust noise and ticketing.

My M7 has a MBRP can on it that is pretty ridiculously loud, so Im thinking it's pretty likely Im going to get popped before long.

I do not have the stock can (bought it already modified w/out stock parts).
So Im wondering, is there any way to reduce the noise in an aftermarket can? Can they be baffled or anything?

Probably no way of doing it without knowing if you are going to hurt performance or not. Just trial and error. For the time and effort it would take I think I'd just try to find a used stock can for cheap or different aftermarket one that is quieter like SLP.

On a separate note, I'm glad they are just being more strict on enforcing the sound requirements rather than flat closing off riding areas for you guys. I'm sure some will gripe about it but it's a way better alternative.

Last weekend in the Upper Pennisula the DNR had a field day I heard ticketing people with loud cans. I have no problem with this honestly as a lot of times these people with loud cans just tear through town. Only way I'd put a can on mine is if it's as quite as stock.

Had an M7 with an slp can...very quiet, then sold that and put an Mbrp can and bdx airbox on it. Big mistake. Was so obnoxious it was almost embarrassing. Sold the Mbrp can and went back to stock. I would highly recommend buying a used stock can or swapping out to slp (almost as quiet as stock).

What year is your M7? I might be taking in a SLP can on trade for a GGB.

i had a full slp on my M8 and it was not loud at all. louder than stock, yes. but not obnoxious by any means

I run a TSS tunnel dump on my XM in the UP, but never ride in polulated areas. The only people i come across are other riders on my 10min commute down the trail to our riding areas. A can isnt an issue if used for the right reasons and the sled is driven respectfully around others. I putt out of the parking lot and down the trail to keep the noise levels in check. Once we are miles back in the woods...i let it breath. I am the first person to be annoyed by a loud can...mainly due to all of the asshat internet wanabees showing off on their clapped out sleds jumping snowbanks in the parking lot. But i chose to run one for the following reasons: access to my chaincase tensioner, drop 19lbs, free up space for underhood storage, dump exhaust into the tunnel to eliminate bogging in deep snow, and to get a sound unlike all the other hornet buzzing cans out there. Just bc guys have a sled thats loud, doesnt mean the only reason they chose to run a can was to piss others off....they probably had alternative reasons. It gets annoying that MI gets so pickey with crap like this....due to the secludedness of the UP. Your are almost always in the middle of nowhere up there. I grew up there and enforcement has always been a little too extreme.
