Question to all flatlanders.

I have noticed that most flatlanders that ride mountain sleds don't ride stock sleds but ride totally modded out sleds. I'm just curious what justifies spending that extra money on your sled when you live so far from the mountains?

Because we can............It's about passion for the sport.

Cuz I get to ride it the 3 time a year it snows in ND.

People who live in the flatlands are just like everyone who lives in the mountains. It's just too hard to keep your hands off a stock sled and you always want more power. I wouldn't say my sled it totally modded out, but it's not totally stock either. I do know it's fun to have one of the faster sleds on the block.

I would say passion for the sport, along with stock sucks (or is made too "safe"/sluggish by the manufactures. besides who says you can't mod out a sled on a budget. I find all sorts of goodies at Haydays, and cheap!

Besides, it's a great excuse to drink beer and "work" on the sled.

It is because they have a whole lot of time on their hands cause they don't get snow anymore:D And the #1 reason for a flatlander to mod a sled is so they can keep up with the local guy on the old Tundra. Just a joke guys!!!!!!

^^^^^^^^ Skidooruls is right we cant go out and ride every weekend like the out west people can. The only way we can spend quallity time with our sleds is when we are modding them. It's a said fact.

Yep, stock sucks.

Back in the 80's we used to drag srock Phazers to the mountains, good sleds back then but the locals could always go places we couldn't

With the sled sitting around between rides, we couldn't keep our hands off them. Duplicated what we saw and added some of our flatland horsepower.
We had no internet back then

Now with the 'net' a whole new world is open. Mountain options/performance tricks are plastered everywhere. Once you have done it (mountain rode) you're hooked and want better if not the best available.

I ride stock for the most part. But I understand where you are coming from. It's not so much about the riding time it's making the most of it when you get the chance to go so why not have something that will do everything you ever will think of doing. Also I think it's a thing since sometimes we don't ride back here we have nothing else other to do then spend time out in the shop around the wood stove doing up some crazy things? Maybe?

I for one would give up all riding around the midwest to simply ride out west for two trips a year. It gets you that spoiled. I do ride a few trips a year in the midwest when there is snow. It's more of a thing to do but isn't all that great.

my sled is stock (HPS can). I live close to the mountains but, dont have any extra money to put into my sled. If I did, It wouldnt be an 800 ;)

Well I am a flatlander from Wisconsin! I have not rode in WI.,for a long time because our family has a cabin in Cooke City Mt. I would not go back to flatlander riding because it is not the challange the mountains have to give.I ride a mod M1000 162 and love it.

I wouldn't say there's any logic to it. Unless you go several times, its cheaper just to fly out and rent. I don't plan on owning a mountain sled until I live out there (but I'm job hunting right now).

If logic had anything to do with it I'd have to sell all my toys..

i went the other way. rode a modded prox triple, this year a new stocker. i went away from the mod just so i did not have "tweek" every ride out. if something is not right now the dealer can fix it.

I know a lot of flatlanders and the spend all summer modding there sleds. And when they come out to ride they like to have the power.

I mod my sled so it's not like everyone elses. Yep, spending time in the shop making it better than stock, having some beers with friends, waiting to go west.

Don't let coyote BS ya, I have already caught him calculating the motor swap, a modded XCR 800 triple from his pro X into his new 700 IQ. He's got the itch real bad. ha ha

I thought a turbo was stock?

I got so sick of driving out here every other week, that I just decided to move out here, what happens then??????????? It snows in MN! Have fun guys!

i mod my sled because i have to drive 15-20 hours to get to the snow 2-3 times a year and i want my riding to be quality riding. and i am a mechanic by trade so i can't keep my hands off my sled :D
