Question about Fouled Plug and Poli Zone

There are only about 4 or 5 posts a day right now in main FP.
Aside from Swap and MAYBE General, FP has always seen the highest traffic on here. LOTS of threads over the years.

How can we get traffic back up in here?


What about merging Political threads back into FP where they used to be.
The rationale for moving them to their own sub was because of how political traffic was overpowering the rest of FP. It's not the case anymore.

It's been talked about a little bit in other circles, but I wanted to throw it out here in this forum too.....let's keep talking.

--1st page in Poli Zone goes back to December. Very low traffic. Involves less than 50 threads in 2010.

Not trying to change things up and get crazy. Poli is already a sub category in FP...just want to consolidate them back to where they were historically and funnel the traffic a bit.

Wow! Going back to the way it was! I think that has been suggested many, many times. It sounds like a good idea to me but it might just be rearranging deckchairs on the Titanic. Many, if not most that made FP what it was have left for greener pastures because of the initial "improvements". One thing is for sure, the hottest forum in SW (FP) has become a virtual deadzone. Folks used to come to FP and scroll down the threads and pick their poison to join in on. It was very diverse and interesting to see what was there. I found that I was interested in things that I didn't know I was. It was all there to pick and choose from.
As with most of SW these days, FP has lost any sense of community and is fractured into little subgroups that don't really interact with eachother. It's a damn shame. This place used to rock. Sometimes things aren't always broke and don't need fixing. Remember the KISS Theorem- Keep it Simple.......... JMO.

Seriously, I think Christopher was hired to fix some issues, etc etc. But, somehow, they don't get 'it'. It might be our fault for not articulating the definition of 'it' correctly..

Remember when Fouled plug read like a newspaper..? A little of everything, some pizzed you off, some were funny, some lame, whatever..? All mixed up, easy to wade through. The old arguments "duh, if you don't like it, don't click on it..". Now, not that I'm interested in politics or anything, but I haven't been to the "Political thread" but once...to show myself that I could find it I guess. And the "Warming Hut"...WTF is that..?

Point is, all the foo foo doesn't make a site. The members do. Even the obnoxious ones.... Got Snocaukaddict? What a tool, but he's part of the bliss here, ain't he?

Most of the members on here aren't kids... and a lot of us are maxed out with the simple technology...foo foo fluff just adds to the pain. I read the letter....and to put it politely, about all the 'experience' SW is trying to offer the user...who gives a rats azz? 3/4 of the folks on here are still to tech dumb to figure out how to post pics that have been formatted to load quickly..etc etc. i.e. how many of you have figured out what those little bars (the gay colored ones next to your avatar) mean..?

Speed would be good.... but change for changes sake (I know, it's been said, and said, and said...) is not. And that is what it feels like to most that are active.

As in most things, a small percentage will hate everything different. Some just hate everything. Most will be quiet and just go with the flow. But to take that and believe that lack of vocal opposition is support is ignorant.

I don't believe that the 'pay' issue is a real issue...if there was a perceived value for it. Value here however, equates to more than just the information that people bring. It's the 'fun' factor while learning. Suck the fun out of it and you have a smart teacher spouting dry facts to a sleepy class. Pretty soon, the pupils just quit showing up.

I read the letter, and the entire first 6 pages of that thread. It is HP's site, and of course you can do as you wish with it. And personally, I don't have a qualm about them making money on it. Go for it..! But listening to the vocal whiners some, might benefit the bottom line. There is good input out there and I would suggest that some u-turns would be beneficial. When all ones does is look at numbers and say 'so we lose 10%, and they're probably the vocal whiners anyhow'... I offer that perhaps 'they' are also some of the heavier contributors to the 'fun factor' on this site (which includes the aggravation, etc, but then, I repeat myself).

Does any of this make sense..? of should I just STFU...again..

Seriously folks, do you really have to ask the question? Isn't the answer terribly and painfully obvious? It's a shame, but I think as in many things in life, you waited to long and can't go back. About the best you can do at this point is stop heading down the same path and issue a huge "opps, that didn't work. Sorry". But something tells me that the pride runs too deep and the arrogance even deeper.

I'll be the very first person to defend Harris, to do as they want with their product. And at the same time, they get to listen (or ignore) those that don't agree and listen (or ignore) those that gleam satisfaction from their fail. It's the capitalist's way.... risk comes with fail as an option.

The outcome has been pathetic and sad.
