Question about assault

We're snowchecking 2 new sleds this spring. One will technically be a "back up" sled and girlfriend/sister/dads sled.. My gf is about 130lb. is she gonna be able to tip the sled over? she just barely started getting the hang of the M8. or would it be harder? would the pro be better over the assault?

I think she will have an easier time throwing it around. the pro is a little easier to throw around then the assault. the assault has a little wider stance.
also if it for a light weight girl, i would consider the new 600 pro. I rode it on Friday and all i can say is wow they say it weights the same. but it handled like it was 40lbs lighter and it has great power. if my wife would ride i would buy it for her.

If your looking to have this second sled as a spare for a "variety" of people, I would go the Assault (with powder track). This way you have something completely different then the Pro I assume your getting for yourself. This also lets you enjoy different aspects of two different sleds.

The nice thing with the Assault is you can really adjust and dial in the shocks for what ever rider is riding at the time. Yes, some will say the Assault will be stiffer but most guys that have ridden both Pro and Assault claim that the sway-bar less Assault is very close in handling to the Pro. As far as rider, light weight rider, set the stance narrow and dial the shocks really light. A Heavier or more aggressive rider, dial the shocks stiffer and let er rip. Just my .02 cents.

Good luck with the decision and let us know what you decide.

After all Variety of is the spice of life!!

I agree with Prorider about getting the 600 as the back up sled. The 600 has a much better reputation for reliability and in a lot of situations will be a more fun sled to ride.

From what I have seen on here the ladies have really liked the pro rmk...they have all raved about how easy it is for a female to handle it..so if you do get the assault and rmk plan on putting her on the rmk at least in the beginning...once she gets used to the chassis she may like the assault better, but whichever one you put her on, make sure you set it up for her(Ie, lower, narrower bars, softer suspension, narrow stance)and listen to her on what the sled needs, dont just assume you know....

I'm just trying to decide between two assaults or two pros. Not considering s 600 because the 2nd one will be used a lot even by me. I absolutely love the way the assault handles on jumps and rough trails all that. Soaks up everything. The wider stance hasn't affected me. But, I have noticed you can carve sharper on the pro vs assault. I just don't know if I want to drop some cash for aftermarket shocks. That's the dilemma I'm in.

What's the narrowest stance I can set an assault? What's the pro rmk come set at?

If I remember right, the rmk's come set at 40 and you can go 1" narrower or wider, the assaults come at 41 and can go 1" wider or narrower(dont hold me to that but I think 1" is the difference....)...

How come no one comes on here with a gf that is 4'8" and 330lbs?:face-icon-small-con With that being said, if I were getting my wife a sled I would get the 600. If I were getting a second sled, I would get 2 pros and on mine I would do carl's revalves ($500), airframes ($500), head ($400) and a power claw track (maybe no cost if you sold your new one). An additional $1400 then compare it to the stocker and tell me if I should spend the money.

Cause someone with a 330 lb gf is prolly spending all his money at buffets;) instead of sledding

Thanks for all the info guys. I'll let you know what I decide. Planning on snowchecking the Monday after the jackson climbs. That way I can see which color I like best ha

Almost sounds as if you may have answered your own question?? Just curios, on the Assault you rode, do you remember what the ski stance was set at??

Tough decision, both are great sleds!!

The Assault is a spendy sled for a back-up...! If you're an agressive rider and like the wider front end, then buy it for yourself. If you are looking to buy 2 sleds, one that the gf might just ride once in a while I would not reccomend an Assault. Like others have said, the 600 would be a great option. I don't believe it will be that much easier to throw around but it won't have the grunt of that 800 tugging at her arms all day long. She'll be able to ride longer with less fatigue and have a better experience. If suspension is a big concern of yours, I believe you could setup that sweet little 6 with any available option for less then you would spend for an Assault with the stock WE's...don't get me wrong. I love the stock WE's on my 2011 Assault, but they are still not compareable to either an aftermarket option such as Fox offers or a set that have been re-valved with different springs for your specific riding style...

I should add that in my experience the Z-Broz Exit line of shocks with variable stage springs are the best of the best. Z-Broz sets them up for you and offers (I think it's 1) a re-valve if you are not satisfied at first. They are cushy in the bumps/mogels but soak up big hits phenomialy!

Heck, if you're gonna snowcheck 2 sleds as backups, you likely have enough money to resell one mid season and buy the other.

Personally, I've gone through the Pro/Assault snowcheck choice myself. Figure it's a bit of a wash, wider more stable front end, but no sway bar on Assault. Narrower front end with sway bar on Pro. I'm going with the Assault.

Leaning towards two pro 800's.. really don't want to have a 600. plus the 2nd sled will be my dads and whoever else is gonna ride it in our family. But we'll see I'll have to let you guys know what I decide.

I believe the Assault was set at what it comes from the dealer.. I couldn't say for exact.

I believe that going with 2 Pros that are either black or white and are 800's are a great choice, I would not recommend the Orange side panels because that's what I went with and we need some variety in the group so you get the black and white and I will take one for the team and get the Orange :D ;)
