Put down our dog Saturday afternoon.

Thoughts and prayers to you and your family. Kalie is running around the nicest field you can imagine free from pain and suffering. You did the right thing for your companion. It's hard but it's right.

 Oh wow! I was not expecting to get many replies.

All I wanted to say, is that, I now know what people like you go through when you put down a pet that you have had so long. This was my first time going through something like this. Mom, dad & myself have shared a special bond with Kalie that we havent had with any other pets that we have had. She was my first dog. We've had Iguanas, Cats, Hamsters, Fish, Birds and I thought that I would be ok going through this but, it didnt happen, lol. Im doing actually pretty well today but, it feels weird not having her by our side. I thank you all for your thoughts and replies. Means a lot. -Andrew.

I remember the lab I grew up with, 'Girl'

last time I ever cried real tears, just overwhelmed me.

I went on a vacation and my dad took that oppertunity to put her down, told me she run off but I was old enough to know the truth. Once I calmed down I thought about how hard it must have been for him and was glad he had done it, she was very old and couldn't get around anymore. I gained more respect for him even with the little fib.

I did some growing up over that deal.

Now I have found a pup I plan on buying soon, so I can do the same cruel thing to my son

Dogs

Sorry to hear this, but we all know your companion is better off because of your love for em, still tough...Dino

My heart goes out to you and your family!:( Man I cant imagine how hard that would be, I almost hope my dog outlives me...RIP Kalie

A sad day for you and your family...:(

Not sure if this has ever been posted or not..I recieved it in an email.

A PET'S TEN COMMANDMENTS.........

1. My life is likely to last 10-15 years. Any separation from you is likely to be painful.
2. Give me time to understand what you want of me.
3. Place your trust in me. It is crucial for my well-being.
4. Don't be angry with me for long and don't lock me up as punishment. You have your work, your friends, your entertainment, but I have only you.
5. Talk to me. Even if I don't understand your words, I do understand your voice when speaking to me.
6. Be aware that however you treat me, I will never forget it.
7. Before you hit me, before you strike me, remember that I could hurt you, and yet, I choose not to bite you.
8. Before you scold me for being lazy or uncooperative, ask yourself if something might be bothering me. Perhaps I'm not getting the right food, I have been in the sun too long, or my heart might be getting old or weak.
9. Please take care of me when I grow old. You too, will grow old.
10. On the ultimate difficult journey, go with me please. Never say you can't bear to watch. Don't make me face this alone. Everything is easier for me if you are there, because I love you so.

Remember that they can't do a lot of things for themselves and that they depend on you to make their life a quality life!

Wow Fab. Nm#10 just got me real bad..

I had a close call over the weekend. I got back to the farm Saturday night and found my 10 year old Brittnay covered in blood. I saw he wasn't stepping on one of back leg and that he had a huge piece of skin missing. Not sure what he got into, but he really tore up his leg pretty bad. By the time I got him to the vet he had lost alot of blood and wasn't looking good. The vet wasn't sure if he could save the leg, let alone the dog. He did his best and managed to stop the bleeding and stiched him up. They kept him there to keep an eye on him, but they called this morn and said he is looking really good. He did damage a couple tendons so he won't be able to move his outside two toes anymore, but it sounds like he should make a full recovery. They are going to give it a couple days, then cast his leg.

It was tough watching him laying on the vets table with the saddest look on his face, probably knowing he was on the verge of death. It was like watching your child in pain at the hospital. He is an awesome hunting dog, so it's a bummer that he will probably be sidelined most of the fall. I'm just glad that he's going to pull through and hopefully make a full recovery.

Got my dog at my side right now, almost lost her this summer. Hang in there buddy, give yourself some time. Then hit up the local animal shelter and pick up a new one. No better animal in the world than the one you just picked up from the pound.

Thank you everyone!!

We did get her from the pound when she was 5 months old. :D It will be a while before myself and my folks get another dog. This is the first time in my life that I am pet less. I am 19.:( There has been a pet in our house for 22+ straight years.:D

I will for sure get another dog here in a few years when I move out!

thanks again guys!

Sorry to hear about your loss!!!!

I thought my dog was having his last day this year..... Took him in for surgery on his head..... It ripped my heart out for several weeks leading up to the surgery..... I'm lucky I have a good Vet. 4 hours of surgery and he made it out fine.... It could have easily been his last day..... He's been with me for 11 years and he's my first since I've been on my own..... I had no idea how hard facing the end would be..... As glad as I am that he made it o.k. I fear the day we have to go through this again!!!!!!

There will never be a dog that will replace him but you will find happiness with a new L'il buddy and it will help make things easier.......

Dog's are family and anybody who doesn't think so has alot to learn and should spend the time with their animal that is deserved!!!!!

The more people I meet the more I like my Dog!!!!

Take Care

Shes in a better place now . Shes so thankfull to have owners like you. She loved you guys just as much and will be waiting for you . Keep your chin up . Just remember, love em while you got em. Dam dog years.

You're doing that dog the ultimate favor, saving it's life.
The magical part is that it's so worth it, you get rewarded ten fold!

Reminds me about a friend who got his "Stray" from the Pound..... Went in and said he wanted to walk the dog and see how the dog responded to him...... Jumped in a VW van and kept on driving......Broke him from Jail...... Right or Wrong it was a great story...... That O'l Stray dog was something else.......

My boy came from a Pound where somebody abandoned a pregnant female..... She had huge litter and three were left when I found Titan my frisbee/guard dog..... Not to be without mention..... My L'l Moose came from a Puppy Farm. He was rolled over on his back, in an outdoor cage being picked on by the other pup's cause he was the phat kid....

I know you and your family did the right thing. This selfless and difficult task may just prove our "Unconditiaonal Love" (mentioned earlier) in the end back to the dog, when they have given it to us all of their Life's!!!!

Just thought I'd share those thoughts with ya.....

Great now i have to hide in my office and compose myself before going back to work. Thanks guys. Sorry about the loss, when the day comes to deal with my old cat that will be hard, and i don't even want think about my Murphy dog, but she has a long time left though.
