PUSH kit vs. Boondockers kit

Alright so I am wanting to put a turbo on my sled. I am looking at the PUSH turbo kit for $3000 or the Boondockers kit. Push is close to $4200 with everything and I can get the boondockers kit from a local dealer for about the same price. Give me some pro and cons of each kit too. I don't want to buy the wrong kit for my riding style.

It will be going on a 2010 M8. Both kits are pump gas kits, however I can get race gas easily. The riding I do is mostly boondocking, some climbing, and have started to hit some drops, so I would like to keep the instant throttle response.

Thanks for the help.

Both are solid kits, I'm curious though how you're getting a BD kit for the same money? The kit alone from BD should be about the same $$ as the push is installed.

If you want more HP, the Push seems easier to get above the pump gas threshold so you can get more out of it, whereas with BD you need to do a pretty hefty upgrade.

I went with Cutler because I knew I wanted to run a bit higher, and when you look at the BASE price of the kit, without intake or clutching, it was less than BD's price, and reliability has been great on both of ours.

I think you're off on the $$ a bit, but I'd go push given the choice & if you've got a good dealer for them nearby, if not, then go with whoever has a nearby dealer that you trust.

I'd HIGHLY recommend having the dealer do the install, as every kit I know that has had problems has been a kit that someone installed themselves. The money they charge is well worth it while you're RIDING instead of working on it during the season!

i would say price out the bigger setups then see where your at. also, a good local dealer is worth there weight in gold during the middle of the season if you need help, so that would my #1 then price 2nd.

personally i would get the RG kit with extra injectors then you can still run pump gas but if you do want to turn it up some days or down the road your already setup to get wild with it, and not worry about maxing out your injectors and leaning it out if you try to push to hard.

and for the install, if you feel like a pretty mechanically savy person who has done a bit of work on motorized toys etc. i think installing yourself allows you to be MUCH more in tune with what is going on. if you havent been around many turbo sleds and are just getting into it, dealer insall isnt a bad idea, i just feel turbos are way more likely to break then a stocker, so its worth knowing exactly what everything does making it 10x easier to diagnose if you have a problem.

Boondocker PG is a Garrett 2860 BB turbo- not sure about push

i am running Boondocker's RG/PG kit, there support is weak, Look at cutler's there support is top notch. what sled is turbo going on, do u see yourself wanting more HP a few years down the rode, with a RG option. I was running PG only, then turned on injectors and ran RG, then found middle ground running avgas at around 9.0 lbs doesn't kill my pocket book of course this was b4 gas went sky high recently. Avgas bulk was $4.01 and u could get it at the airport, self serve around $4.25, RG was $8.75ish from local dealer, Pump premium non ethanol was $3.35. I'm a bigger guy 250ish and wanted the xtra HP, but a PG kit is good for 70-80 more HP than stock

Keep in mind with Push, OVS & Cutler, you can have a 2 injector system that will let you get up to higher psi levels. I was running 13.5 this weekend on my stage II & I'm not even close to full DC, but I'm too cheap to spend more money on fuel!

I really feel that the systems that allow more from 2 injectors are much easier to deal with & 15 psi is pretty stupid power, hard to feel that one would ever need more. 90+mph on the way up the hill this weekend... just reterdid... and this setup can go another 1.5 PSI.

Its looking like I am going with the Push kit. Havn't decided if I will install it or have it done yet.

turbo kits

you can run higher boost with a pump gas boondocker kit if you get there fuel board lets stock pump move more fuel so u can turn up the boost and still not have to upgrade to race gas kit or upgrade fuel pump. i have a boondocker kit and wish sometimes i went with a cutler or twisted kit

It's ok... you ride like a panzy anyhow... you don't need more boost!!!:face-icon-small-sho:face-icon-small-sho:face-icon-small-sho:face-icon-small-sho

I have never seen a push kit around here so can't say on that one. One thing I do know though is that if your worried about the $$$$ you are asking for trouble. A good dealer is worth $$$ unless you know what you are doing.

More boost doesn't mean anything, all kits will hit deto at some point, the more efficient kits run less boost and put out more power, ie one will run 8lbs on pg and the other will run 7lbs on pg before deto, but they are equal in power (for the most part anyway if tuned right).
I never saw a BD kit in 2010 that ran flawless and I think some of that is the 2010 mapping the 2011 mapping is far better for boost, the other part is bd had a lot of updates after 2010.
For what you are describing as rider style of making drops and wanting instant power I would go with the twisted kit for sure, they are running a different turbo setup than most (the others may have changed now???) Twisted said there 2011 TM8 will pull a M1200 (want to see it) off the line and on up, I also heard it will run pretty close with a TM1000 up to 10lbs. It is also the kit that uses the least amount of parts, to me that means when taking jumps and drops there will be less to bounce around and fail. Twisted also sells a additive called boost juice, you add, 1qt to 10 gallons and can run 10lbs of boost so you don't need the race gas.

I think Wyoboy makes a bunch of great points! The Twisted kit these days is a super slick and simple kit. The 2876 turbo sounds like the ticket! I'll be throwing one of them on my Stage2 Cutler kit the summer.

I will add that I think a good cold air intake will make any of the kits make more power than the same kit taking air from the engine compartment. That is one of the reasons I like my Cutler kit so much!

Twisted also make a cold air and a real nice water/air intercooler, but for pg it might help but wouldn't help as much as it would on bigger boost. I like the cutler kits but the backwards turbo leaves no options for a tunnel dump like mine.

After 4000 miles on them though... I just can't see a need for it on this setup.

Have yet to have a powderbog like some people (BD) CLAIM it's going to have. On the first sled I could have said it was a fluke, maybe just because something the race dept did... but I've got 1800 miles on the 11 now, and that one is a normal stock machine with an install by cutler, nothing special.

I'd love to have it for the sound side of things though. The cutler can works, but it's about like having a SW can on a sled, louder, but not horrid. TUnnel dump sounds pretty much like stock to me... I love that!
You can do a tunnel dump on the push too btw, I think that's how MMsports does them.

I like the tunnel dump for all the above but mine is load as I straight piped it with 3" pipe. unless its in deep snow, I have had a bog with every type of exhaust, the TD is the all around best IMO.

The way I figure is that if I find it bogging, I can always add a tunnel dump exhaust later. MMSports does have them for the Push kits. He is the person I will be buying from, when it comes time.

I like tunnel dump too. But it has one minus. Sometimes I am riding at -4F or -22F and my tunnel very freezes because that exhaust steam warms my tunnel.

No matter what kit I get, I'm going to like it!

Bah... turbos just make it boring. All the sudden you can't even find a good challenge anymore... yawn.

You know, thinking about it now, I think I'm just gonna trade my 11 for an 97 580. That will be way more fun.

Just be careful, many unfortunate purchasers of turbos from many different companies have been afflicted with a debilitating disease that seems nearly incurable as long as you're on boost. This terrible affliction is known as turbo giggle. It takes a full grown man... and makes him sound like a little girl. Truly embarrassing. The only answer... an N/A sled.

Damn, I want to giggle more. Need a blower on my 1000 just always on the fence as to who would be best. Back to probably Twisted.

............oh yeah, unemployed tends to suck it as well as puts a dent in my blower plans........
