Proud to NOT own a Polaris anymore

Here is my experience with my 2010 dragon rmk. Tried to trade it in to snow check a new doo and they said these sleds are such a liability that they wouldn't even take it on trade. Got lucky and sold it outright for 7500. But if your looking to get out of these sleds tousley motorsports in mn is a Polaris and doo dealer and they were the only dealer who would take my sled if it didn't sell with a trade value of 6400. My sled only had 600 miles/ one year of riding in the mountains. Hope these numbers help anyone who is looking to get out of their Polaris pos

MY Polaris Experience! 2009 rmk 800 JUNNNNK!!!

I have always been a yamaha, AC guy tell i bought a 2007 600 rmk, Loved the sled. Wanted to upgrade so i bought the 800 rmk with only 350 miles on it. Put 100 miles on it and the mag side went. Polaris dealer could only give me a possible 450 more miles before a new top end again. What a JOKE!! Traded it in for a quad. I have a AC now and love it and it has been O so reliable. I stopped in and told the dealer how reliable the AC has been and how it starts and goes all day long, and this because the dealers son who i know told me that the "AC would just blow up on me"!
Well i'm at 1700 miles and still going strong! I'm all cat now! SCREW POLARIS!!!!!!!

my doos have been very reliable, get a chance, trade it in for one of them, and not look back and enjoy the sport again

Lol!!

How many pistons did the rev destroy? How many people lost cranks as well?

How many $180 belts does the XP eat per ride?

How are those etecs doing on rings?

How much money on a new nun when you hit a rock?

Every sled has issues.

You're correct, every sled has it's own issues...but every company has their policies, as well. This is where I have the MOST trouble understanding and accepting. POLARIS has repeatedly treated their consumers with less than quality customer service. They KNOW there's a problem with the 800 motors, but are completely unwilling to actually FIX THE DAMN THINGS!! "Under warranty" just means new out-of-tolerance parts are going back in, all set up just to fail yet one more time.

I had an '05 Rev with 3500 miles on it, original top end, ran like a champ. My buddy has an 08 XP (I don't care for it!) with nearly 2000 trouble free miles. Every person I know that has had an 08-10 RMK 800 has blown motors (not just once!!). What does Polaris do about it?? Nada.....

An acceptable "issue" would be like needing to properly align the motor to keep from excessively heating the clutch; or let the sled warm up to temp before even moving it; or needing to replace the hand warmers with aftermarket ones because the stock ones suck; or dealing with a substandard stock rear skid until you can afford an aftermarket one......

I'll never accept that an incredibly unreliable motor (even with brand spanking new parts in it) can be written off as "an issue"......

I loved the chassis!!!!!!! But there's no way I'd own one again....

*rant over....for now*

should've just got the fix kit and pcv. My 08 D8 kicks *** now that the runability issues are all gone. Its just more fun to ride than anything other than a new rmk. I'll just have to save up for a new one and keep this old "POS" as an awesome spare.

Just wish people would quit complaining about polaris not spending more time on these engines and to take the initiative to fix the problem themselves with PROVEN aftermarket products. Especially since everyone knows that oem parts are NOT working with these engines.

I agree that you shouldn't have to spend a grand just to make it survive but when it works as well as it does you're stupid not to.

I understand what your are saying, but $3k is more like it unless you picked up the "Fix" before the engine grenaded. So how many decided that your 200, 300, maybe even a whopping 600 mile engine needed new aftermarket parts before the inevitable happened. Oh and what in the hell makes anyone think if the Pro 800 is defective Polaris is going to CORRECT the problem to anyones satisfaction?

BTW thanks for the update on the "Fix" mine is in rought

I think everyone knows at this point that if these sleds are going to run that we as consumers will have to do the leg work. All the while the Polaris board of directors sit behind their desks pointing and laughing at us.

The biggest problem is that we as consumers feel taken advantage of. We spend our hard earned money and are just pushed aside. This was all fixable. Polaris chose not to. Giving the consumer a very clear message that Polaris does not care about the consumer and they certainly don't stand behind their product or even their dealers.

I really want to ditch my sled and move on to something else. If they can't acknowledge me/us as people then I won't acknowledge them as a company I can do business with. This is just how I ethically feel about the situation. I would love to see a cat or a doo in my future. Unfortunately, I can't afford it.

$5500 for trade in on a D8 is pretty good. It seems bad but consider the value of used sleds right now. A year or two ago the used market value wasn't too bad. That's because Polaris, Yamaha, AC and Ski Doo were pat on their current platforms. Now the D8 and M are outdated chassis and the XP is on it's way out (they can only move the skis in so far!). The Yamaha is relatively old as well and they are due for something new and cool. There are a ton of Pro's for sell and they are getting cheaper (guys like me want to sell and get new ones). With the new Pro Climb and another good Pro year coming, used sleds are not getting much. Don't blame Polaris for that one.

If honda and kawie jumped into the market, polarisourous would be the BSA of the snowmobile industry. Still can't believe they pushed ktm to the side and have now struggled with engine technology since '05, then posted record sales, profits and bonuses... who can argue with their management style?? Well, if you don't spend money on technology and limit warranty payouts, thats one way....buy shares in polaris and buy your toys from japan!

^^^don't spend money on technology? I would say the Pro chassis has been a pretty good technology project thus far.

I agree the Pro chassis technology is way better than what was offered by any manufacturer before. Hopefully the motors will be reliable, sounds like lots of people have been hosed by Polaris with poor quality motors in the past, mine have worked well.

Agreed, I would ditch my sled right now if I thought there was something other than Poo that would handle the way I like a sled to handle. I was going to step up to a Pro, but not after this! As it stands I will fix my Dragon and if it runs right be as happy as a clam about the sled and remember in the future not to buy a product from Polaris until it has been on the market for a few years and is out of warranty. Why pay for a warranty the manufacurer has no intention of honoring.:nono:

How many of you have had real warranty issues? How many have had a real warranty and polaris denied it?

I keep reading about people that are 1 month and more out if warranty. Sorry that is not the agreement. You ARE NOT IN WARRANTY.

IMO, whether or not they are in warranty doesn't matter. They should have stepped up and fixed those sleds properly. It's called a recall, and auto manufacturers do it all the time. I had mine fixed under warranty several times and am thankful for it. I recognized that it needed more than what Polaris was providing and bought a PCV and had the pistons coated to make up some of the slop in clearances. You can't blame people for being pissed that Polaris abandoned them after the warranty expired, when the sleds are out spec when new.

Skidoo is another one of your pi$$ poor warranty work/customer service brand problems.

Basically the same chit that has happened to the OP of this thread has been done to a friend buy skidoo. Each manufacture has its problems.

Until Polaris or another brands customers boycott the new products coming along the problems with existing platforms won't go away. If everyone who had lost a motor said to hell with polaris then you might see a change. All this talk about I don't like how XXX manufacturer handles is BS, its all about seat time, get it out of your head, your not Chris Burandt and until you can push it to his limits any stock sled can do more than the average guy can ask of it. I'm keeping my 09 800 and polaris won't see a dime of my money again, between fed up dealers, piss poor factory technical assistance and a to bad its out of warranty attitude why would anyone buy a new pro? For anyone who buys factory parts just send back pistons and cylinders that don't meet "Polaris" specs. For anyone trading in a sled, demand top dollar based on industry standard depreciation, if a polaris dealer lowballs you go somewhere else. Otherwise get a factory manual and buy some tools, its your best insurance to cut all your future repair bills nearly in half.

Then maybe you should go buy a Yamaha and go boondocking ET. Just a little seat time and you'll be all over it right? Forturnatly I have the tools, shop, and skills to take care of my stuff and intend to do just that. As far as warrenty mountain horse, what good is it if you have to do it yourself to fix it right and void the thing.

HONDA??

On the bold, I doubt that.

HONDA (And I agree they are very reliable) jumped into the Jet-Ski market back in 2002 and got out a few years ago.

They built a reliable ski,(2 of my buds have them and I've ridden them several times) just down on power and essential features and out-of-touch with what the consumer wants.

Based on their failure of being competitive in the Watercraft market, (and abandoning watercraft production after 3 different models and 6 years +/-) I can't see what would make you think they'd do any better in the snow...........................................................................
