Pro's and Con's of the FJ Toyota??

i just have to add my jeep opinion to this.
my bro had a wrangler with just about every option & aftermarket addition possible. that thing was sweet! would climb like you wouldn't believe & was just all around fun. he regrets selling it to this day.
my mom has a 96 grand cherokee & has had no problems except the normal wear & tear. that thing was loads of fun too which she never found out about... ;)
so last summer i bought a 04 grand cherokee even after the bf told me not too.:o have had one issue with it which was simple to fix. one of the best domestic built suvs out there imo. the ride is amazing & it looks better. i have honestly never driven a foriegn made vehicle but they are not very popular around here either.
so when i come out to see you again kristy i get a test drive right? ;)

Fair enough, but from someone who has driven dozens of Grand Cherokees and, say, Toyota 4Runners let me tell you....there is no comparison. The GC is not a "bad" vehicle, but a 4Runner is THAT much better.

You don't want her backing you up, she couldn't see over you.. Justin i'm thinkin a couple phone books and she'll be able to see then.

Heck I was thinkin a high chair....

Back up my azzz, If I remember right, she'd rather have a cherry swap fest with a chic, than a cat fight.

Good choice Kristy-this is Sonya's 1990 FJ62 with 241,000 on it. Keeps chuggin along and she loves it. Great on the snow and ice and there is more metal in one axel housing then in an entire Cheep Wrangler!

I considered getting one, liked the looks of it but wanted more options and did not like the small back seat and suicide doors plus the handles to open them are on the inside and difficult to open.

Owning a 2001 Toyota Sequoia, I can say my first surprise was to learn the manual recommends that the valve clearances be checked every 60,000 miles. On a V-8 that could be pricey. Was in the dealer today and one of the head mechanics who has been there since 79 told me the valves rarely ever need adjustment because the seat and valve material is so hard it doesn't wear. Ok, that sounds good to me. I think the newer engines may not require valve checks/adjustments - according to the Toyota Manuf. Rep at the state fair last year.

next - there is still the timing belt issue to keep in mind. They told me 100k replacement and they also recommend replacing the water pump at the same time because it is all buried in there somewhere. Circa $700-800 at the dealer. The 4.7L is an interferance type motor so if the belt breaks, so will lotsa other expensive stuff.

Finally - Jeep was offering lifetime warranties a few months ago. Not sure if their engines require the routine timing belt thing but to me you can't beat a lifetime warranty if you are going to keep it for a long time.
