Project Black

Nothing is finalized on these sleds as of yet so we cannot release alot of detail. The Black Nytro sleds do address alot of the Nytro issues, such as balance and weight. Rumor has it wet weights are not all that much more than the Pro RMK. As you can probably pick out in the photos, the new Concept front suspension, a new rear suspension, upgraded track, ski's, lots of powder coating, Skinz hood, Skinz bumpers, Airframe running boards and some other goodies we cannot talk about as of yet.

sorry cant see that the view is not that good and 100+lb loss realy cant see that....

Yeah wet weights may be close, but the problem is I have to put 20+ pounds of fuel on the back to go as many miles as the pro. Don't get me wrong I wouldn't trade my Nytro for any pro but I just being a realist here.

The Sled does look sick though and Skinz builds some sick stuff with some of the best customer support in the industry.

100lbs on an apex.. yes, a nytro possibly with the right work done to cut the fat. skinz bolt on goodies for 100lb loss, i'm gonna agree and say no. hopefully i'm proved wrong, but a 100lbs is alot to cut with bolt on parts, and that much weight loss worries me. i see durability issues because of 2 reasons brand new to the market suspension, and that much weight loss says to me somethings gotta give and like most products it takes a year or 2 of it being on the snow to iron out the wrinkles. Just like timbersled, made great products, lightest on the market but in they end they had to slightly beef up the rear suspension for some reliabilty.

Like i said i hope my wrong thats just my expectation from my past experiences. I was never a huge fan of most skinz products in the past but the new nytro front suspension has be intrigued as this setup changes the geometry completely and I like how its not the same old liteweight suspension, but this setup WILL change the handling completely. i;m the market for a nytro front end and this setup has got my attention.

Wet weight not dry weight, If I remember right the 2011 nytro mtx is only 30-35lbs more than the 2011 pro rmk when they are both completely full of fluids, both weighed on race car scales.
EDIT--looked it up and it was 20 lbs heavier than the m8 and 70 pounds heavier than the pro rmk.

Skinz has added reinforcement to these sleds in some key areas. (Ie subframe) These are brand new sleds that they tear completely down and start building up. So far they also meant to be sold as turnkey sleds with options for different colors on the powder coated parts.
From talking with Skinz the primary focus of the new front suspension was changing the balance of the sled and not providing a ultra lite weight front suspension. At the same time though they also kept in mind that replacing the A-arms is much cheaper than replacing the sub frame if you happen to hit a rock. As for weights we will know more once the video is released.
Part of the weight equation is definitely is the smaller fuel tank on Nytro when compared to the other manufacturer’s, but this debate can also be broken down a lot of different ways as well. It all comes down to you and your groups riding style which will determine the range of your sled.

Tracks to Treads never claimed a 100# loss.

The actual measured weight of the "Black Nytro", with all fluids full was #580

The actual measured weight of the Pro RMK, with all fluids full was #545

And yes, we all know about the size of the Nytro fuel tank, so you can add on the weight of 3-4 more gallons of gasoline, just remember to subtract the difference in the fuel burn rate as well.

I won't bring up time spent in the shop for warranty engine work, as it has nothing to do with the "actual" riding weight.

That seat is just what I have been looking for. Is that offered by Skinz through their product line, or is it a custom one of...? I need (2) of them regardless.

PM sent, throttlecable.

Here is a picture of the seat on our own Nytro, not quite as low as the seats on the Black sleds and you can still use a tunnel bag with it.

Copy of the Skinz Press Release on the "Black" Nytro

SPG is now offering the “Black” concept snowmobile build for the Nytro. The “Black” is a concept of transforming a snowmobile into a purpose built snowmobile for the specific conditions it will be ridden in. SPG will begin by offering 4 new 2011 Nytro MTX 153 machines which include a gusseted front sub frame, Camoplast Challenger Extreme tracks, under tunnel exhaust, freeride seat, black powder coated tunnel, Airframe running boards, Concept front suspension w/Evol R shock package, Timbersled rear suspension, Airframe hood, and many more features. These machines are completely disassembled, modified, and reassembled. This can be applied to new or used machines.

Had a chance to ride the LOW SEAT last Spring.
Man, it changes the center of gravity on that sled in a BIG WAY.

Is the seat still usable to get you from the good riding to the parking lot at the end of the day or did you find it too low?

Do you have any literature or anything showing these weights? I know for a fact the Pro isn't 545 wet...Snowmobile Mag says 440 for the regular Polaris RMK this year, not the lighter weight brother which came is around 430...Either way a cool concept and setup, just hard to compare a fully modded and torn down sled to a stock sled with easily the same capabilities out of the box...
