Procharger for the pro

OK, maybe that is the disconnect. The guys at speedworx (much lower elevation) would see 8lbs of boost, here at a higher elevation..........not so much. :face-icon-small-ton

this might be a naive question so bare with me:

isnt that backwards? turbos run higher boost a higher elevation to offset the less dense air. can a supercharger do that as well or does it not have a capability to flow more without changing a pulley?

You answered your own question. :face-icon-small-hap

A couple of things:
1. Carls is great to work with period. If they are working on other options for this SC then you need to be patient. They won't release anything until they have it dialed in, so speculation is just that.
2. Anthonys reputation is good as well, and he has quantifiable seat time in both the SC, 900 and the turbo. Hard to argue with experienced seat time.
3. Prochargers: They build outstanding products for just about everything. I build street sleepers and I am running one in my old stingray corvette. (note: don't mess with the old guy at the stop light or track lol). If you want a quailty product that you can take out of one sled and put on another in the future this is really a good option. Not all superchargers last, many need rebuilding like turbos, not Prochargers they last and last. I don't sell them so I have nothing to gain by promoting them. Check them out yourself athttp://www.procharger.com/superchargers.shtml
You will see them on cars, trucks, boats, ATVs, motorcycles and someone else has been putting them on skidoos based on their web site.

See you on the snow!

Spoke with Jack this week, he hopes to have the higher altitude kit dialed in mid January.

I S/C spins at a fixed rate with relation to the crankshaft. The only way to change that rate, is changing the pulley. So to make more boost, or compensate for altitude, you would have to change pulleys.

With a turbo, if it is running at X lbs of boost at sea level, it can simply leave the wastegate closed more/longer to get the target boost at higher elevations.....provided you have enough turbo.

Prochargers do sound different than turbos, mine sounds like the old gear drive timing chains on small block chevys. Anyone have anymore videos to put up?

I called Carls and they said they wouldn't sell the supercharge kit in AK saying they haven't done any testing at sea level. It does seem to be a great option tho. I would have to assume it would be easier to tune since your basically in boost from engagement on...

I called them as well and was not happy with how he treated me. Will not every think of using Carles Cycle for any product in the future.

I wanted to get details as it is something different and I am about ready for a new project but all he was very negative. "you would have to run Av gas or something" Yep already doing that... "Cant run boost at sea level" Ha, been doing that and loving it! "they have to install" Really! He was very short and had no time for my foolish thoughts of running it in Alaska.

Some people just don't understand Alaska. We have money and want to spend it as well. :noidea: I guess I will continue to stick with shops that are willing to talk and answer any question any time, Guys Like Corey at Boston Racing.

I would not take a phone call with Jack as an indication of anything other than you are dealing with a very matter of fact guy who knows a great deal about what works and what doesn't. He is a very good man who will sell you a great product when and if he feels right about it, which for him means many hours of studying, building, testing and retesting. I assume that you can get a supercharger kit elsewhere but, if it was my money, I would have Jack do it when and if they are ready. I believe in him and what he sells. If he sells it to you, he will back it up if used properly. There aren't too many guys selling and installing high performance stuff that will do that. I reiterate that Jack is a great guy but he is not verbose and he is direct. I have worked with many brilliant engineers during my career and Jack is like most of them in that regard. He is a very hard worker, he is very bright and he is ethical which is what I value most.

I will be installing one in a customers 15 pro in about two weeks so little input until then but does anyone have any experience installing one and could give me a little insight on what I'm going to be getting myself into

Have any of you spoke to Bill Schiltz about this ProCharger on a Pro? He was the one originally riding/testing for Speedworks and then Jack (Carl's) took over. If you talked to someone at Hay Days the last couple years about this it was most likely Bill as he was the one displaying it. Carls is the only one selling the kits now, but if you want to know more of the "history" of development Bill had lots of seat time on it with the 3" track as well.

23 of 25 kits sold. Anyone have more input?

Is the throttle response that much better than the new turbos? Is it the "ultimate" tree machine???

You guys that have one would you buy another?

Setting the record straight

I am sorry to hear that you did not have a good time dealing with us, AKFullthrottle. We are not happy with having upset customers, but unfortunately it does happen occasionally. But I believe that there are several misconceptions and I wanted to clarify them if you have a second. The kit does not have to be installed by us, but it is definitely beneficial as we have the most experience with it. We sent a kit down to Grand Lake Colorado (the guy chiming in earlier from Spirit Lake Motorsports) and they installed it.

I believe AKFullthrottle was a little bit confused about our kit running at sea level, and maybe we just didn't explain it well enough when talking to him. The kit will run at sea level, but the only testing we have done at sea level was the kit for Levi Lavallee running at 23.5lbs of boost on pure race gas. If you wanted to get a kit, and have it installed you might have to play with the pulley a little bit and figure out the mapping, but it is viable, we just haven't done much with it. We don't have a map for it with pump gas at sea level yet, so that is the reason he was saying to run av gas. We are still in the middle of testing things out and are working to get a setup for all elevations, but it will take some time. We do not like to send out things that have not been tested and evaluated before all the kinks are worked out, so I hope you all can understand. We have no problems sending stuff up to Alaska! Please don't tarnish our reputation because you didn't get an answer that you liked. If that is the only testing we have done at sea level, then that is what we are going to tell you.

Those that have had the kit have enjoyed it, and we have had very good results with it. Once we have the kit figured out for pump gas at sea level, we will release it for that. But until then, I would hope that you would continue to rely on us. We work hard to ensure that all of our customers get great customer service, and that all of our products work well before we release them. If you have any further questions guys, give us a call! We will be happy to answer any questions you have!

Daniel @ Carls Cycle

I want one on my Carls 900 Big Bore.
I think that would be pretty good.
