problem with m7 rpms.

so i got a pretty good deal on this 05 m7 last year and when i took it for a rip it was only pulling 6800 rpm. even in the garage(with the belt off) same thing, 6800 rpm. exaust valves seem to be set right, time to pull it out and start looking at it again and not real sure where to look next. any ideas would be apreciated.

I did replace the cables at the end of last year and they seem to set right but i will try those ideas thanks guys.

anyone have a link for that powervalvle tool? it tells you if the lentgh is right pr spmething

^ Yep its 34.5 mm. And definitely sounds like a powervalve issue. If the cables are fine you need to check the servo and also probably should pull the powervalves and clean them.

I have the 05 service manual if anyone wants it post up your email addy.

To me this problem sounds power valve--although it should be going closer to 7100ish with valves closed I would think... Take the cables off and pull them open and see if the sled revs up all the way.

Have you run the sled at all without the headlights plugged in? Could also be an ECU issue. If you have another sled to test your ecu on try that but DO NOT put a different ECU on YOUR sled.

i did set the power valves that way. never did try unpluging the headlight. buddy has an m7 we'll compare with later. I'll try pulling the cables open and see how that works. thanks for all your imput.

sounds to me that the ECU is already shot.

Does it kinda sputter at that 6800rpm?

I had my ECU go out and it was right around that rpm range and it would kinda sputter out and one cylinder would go dead.

Did you just put on a aftermarket silencer by chance? And be careful running it without a belt....probably not a good idea. :beer;
