Pro belt tensioner

a craftsman 1/2 inch ratchet costs 20 bucks

looks like it costs more to make a ratchet than it does to make this little wheel and some bolts...

gears, spring, bearings, hard steel, shaping steel, starbits...and not to mention if it breaks they get you a new one

fine & ice sure wont be counting my money...even if i had a belt drive...

yea BUT the make probably millions of ratchets . if there was a market for millions of these tensioners the price would reflect it. Very simple concept.

60 bucks for this...150 bucks for a wheel and a bolt with an aluminum plate...they must have a big light bill at fire and ice

i wonder how much their workers get paid...if they pay their workers a decent amount then i will shut up about the price thing on this tensioner

When you stop and think about it the chain tensioner in your post will fit all chain drive bikes, Fire & Ice made this tensioner for one brand only so IMHO 60 for a tensioner for every dirt bike ever sold and 150 for a tensioner only Polaris can use isn't bad, I need to see some more info before I buy, Thanks Fire & ice for the effort. :face-icon-small-coo

If you think that's too expensive go out and buy a milling machine and the other precision instruments it takes to make even a simple looking apparatus like this. Personally I think it's a good buy.

if that chain tensioner is not made in china It would be a HUGE surprise. Having worked in or owned a machine shop since I was 13( 26 + years) this is something I know a little bit about.

it looks to me like its bent sheet metal

i remember i was going to rivet together my own tunnel...like .73 gauge aluminum and it was like 100 bucks for the sheet...in Alaska...the wheel is the only think that looks to cost more than 15 bucks...if all is in house...and bought in usa material...and they pay their workers very least 15 bucks an hour it MIGHT be a price that is reasonable

Roff... enough already.... We get your point.

Like it, don't like it. It's all the same.

But in this thread and others you bring negativity to the conversation.

I understand that you have the right to express your thoughts... but please, step up your game, bring some more substance to your posts.

MH.

Damn Roff, did you have a bad personal issue with Fire and Ice?? Hopefully everyone knows your aggressiveness isn't indicative of all Alaskans...

Expensive or not, I appreciate the effort for those of us that went through 4 belts in less than 250 miles. Thank God for good dealers! Personally I don't think 150 is bad at all, that is less than one new belt. Either belt...

havnt had anything from fire n ice

being as i have an assault...and they dont make anything that i really need...or want to have...

well they do have a torque arm that i would like to have...but 100 bucks for a bolt, a piece of rubber...and a bent aluminum plate with some rivets

slp is the same way...100 bucks for a torque arm

klim now making 600 dollar jackets

chevrolet trucks now getting into the 50k's for anything that isnt baseline

if we all just let this go its going to get worst than it ever has been

i mean the polaris is almost as unreliable as ever...almost 13k

cats...some guys are paying 13k just to have it take a few hundred dollars worth of belts with in 500 miles...

terra alps is making a thermostat just about the same as ski-doo where doos part is about 30 bucks and terra alps is 250...wtf?

cmx is selling a arms for 1250 while alternative impact is selling a arms for 600 just without the custom spindles...

i dont know about you guys...but i dont want pricing to get anyworst...and if we sit here...and do nothing about it and keep buying their stuff...it is going to get worst

sorry for not liking what these guys sell...but if we were all positive about everything we are all going to be let down and lie to our selves a little that everything is ok...

ohhh i just spend 12+k on my snowmachine and it blew up and they wont warranty it because i removed the foam under my hood...but thats ok...thousands more out of my own pocket on an already tens of thousands of dollars snowmachine and ill be set to do this all over again

fire n ice have been around for a long time...im sure they arnt going through the starting out pains of buying property and building a shop and then having a cnc machine bought...if they are just starting out this could explain their pricing

but a very NEW company who sells sway bar disconnect kits does NOT make their kits out the window on pricing

http://pes.ecwid.com/simple-store#!/~/category/id=6330411&offset=0&sort=addedTimeDesc

40 bucks...now that is a product i would actually buy...very reasonable...

but dont listen to me...buy what you guys like :face-icon-small-win

Some people just don't get it

Most people have no idea what it's really like to try and run a small business. I started my company 4 1/2 years ago, and it was a big wake up call. This sh*t is expensive... every part of it is expensive, from the insurance (to protect you from sue happy people that think business owners must be "rich"), to the fuel, to the payroll and taxes... it never ends.

Our country does not make it easy to start and run a small company, personally I'm amazed any make it at all.

The fact that many on this forum speak up and say it's a reasonable price is encouraging. If you really want the cheapest stuff out there, you're probably the kind of person that shops at WalMart instead of paying a little more and shopping at a small locally owned mom 'n' pop shop.

America would be a lot stronger financially if there were more mom 'n' pop places, but obviously, that would upset the agendas of the people up top with more money than God...

So don't complain to me when your job gets shipped out overseas because you're getting paid too much for what you produce.

RoffRider,
What's your motivation for being on snowest? A week ago I see you on another forum calling it blowest and basically bragging about how your stirring the pot over here and the fact that your too tight to pay for a membership and can't read anymore of the crap you started...

If I was a mod I'd make it real simple and just boot you and your IP address... It's a good thing that's left up to people with a lot more patience than me.

One more question for you. Do you have a small business? If so I dare you to post your prices for your services or products on here... I'm guessing you don't though due to your total ignorance of the cost associated with running a legit profitable small business. And I'm not talking about getting rich profitable, I'm talking about keeping the lights on, feeding your family and MAYBE having a little left over to have fun profitable.

roffrider, Its very clear your not in business! you make zero sense, its fools like you that demand more pay for less work and in return that drives up company costs = increasing product pricing. I know its hard for you to understand

Well if a fella gets twenty bucks an hour...and out of his eight hour day receives the 160 bucks counting the time on the crapper and on face book and texting and lunch and coffee and humping the dog ,he possibly then is only working 2 hours out of the eight.

So realistically the part in question in a lot of cases is being purchased for 2 hours work which does actually makes the real cost 40 bucks...so there, the people who feel its priced too high can sleep at night now..

If you don't think it's worth DON'T buy it, no need for the bashing.

I certainly wasn't bashing. I thought the price is steep and still do. I think $100 sounds more like it.

More concerning to me was what it really did. Like I said it doesn't allow you to loosen the belt like most tensioners do. I thought Polaris made a mistake in not having that in the first place. It was discussion, not bashing.

Has anyone ran one of these?

Like whatever it costs its worth its weight in gold if it works to save belts.

If its all based on theory and does nothing its not worth a dime.

Im running my pro in the flats primarily. If im running 80 mph on trail out to the fields and let off and goose it will i loose teeth? Still not proven this new belt is better than the old.
