In addition, I place a WET shop rag behind the clutch to protect the crank seal from getting too hot

good idea with the shop rag. What is the reason for a wet shop rag?

A wet rag won't catch on fire from the torch.

TBO there is no need for a wet rag behind the clutch since the crank or seal will barely get hot. Remember aluminum heats up at a much faster rate then steel.
