Presidential Candidates-2008--Who Supports Us?

I think WeeTee calling Oregongirl a greenie is the epitomie of "uninformed". Come on folks, don't prove Rufie's point for him.

Here's the way it's supposed to work:

1. Start and warm up brain.
2. Engage Brain.
3. Get a clue about what you want to talk about.
4. Give some thought to how you feel about the facts that you now know.
5. Then open mouth.
6. Exercise caution while venting brain through mouth.
7. Close mouth.
8. Feel free to leave brain engaged.

B
Couldn't agree more. I support SAWS and ISSA, good orgs.

Bottom line is that no matter how many time the candidates say the word "change," they aren't going to do it. EVERY election they scream about changing a broken system, and then they do $h!t about it.

I find it absolutely unbelievable that someone would vote for a candidate that has been a senator for 5-6 years because they think they are qualified to run the most powerful nation in the world. I don't think I need to input a name here.

I generally like to NOT choose a party but the stupidity and ignorance of one particular group is wearing pretty thin on me. It's an opinion, take it for what it's worth.

As far as voting for the candidate based on what will benefit us as individuals: You are lying to yourself if you say you don't.

8. Feel free to leave brain engaged.

I didn't even know you could disengage that sucker.

And well all this talk of president is good, who really affects and controlls policies more? Is it the guy serving max of 8 years or the old folks running 15-20 plus years of terms. Also could it be those lifer gov. agency folks, you knwo who run a division no matter who is in the White House.

my 2 cents

Hey Ruff, I guess that I fit into your box of a bad voter.
6. I believe in this contry enough to have spent 20 years defending it. I have the scars and heartache to back that up.

Bagger
Hey guys I've spent a long time reading this forum and I think that there are a lot of good points here but I think some people have made some absolutely a**nine comments here as well
first of all, whoever made the comments about sledders being a bunch of rednecks, is more than likely sitting in a bedroom with his sister at this time of night doing god knows what!, just kidding, but I believe that that comment was aimed directly at me and the kind of people I snowmobile with! I am a country kid from a middle sized town in South Dakota. I grew up with farm kids, and helped out on my family farm. I also grew up to be a college graduate with a degree in finance, and an Eagle Scout. So if you want to talk about respecting the land we ride on or the other peoples rights that go with it besides ours, lets hear it. I think the people who have grown up to depend on the land for a living have learned a hell of a lot more respect for it than those that just depend on it for fun.

Now having said that, I rode a friends sled when I was in fourth grade, and since that day, it has been the one thing in my life that I will always look forward to doing. There is no other passion in my life other than family and friends that compares to the joys I get out of snowmobiling, and thats something that only another snowmobiler can understand. I will never do anything that would jeopardize my right to ride in the places that I love. And I will always wish to protect that right!!! (Join your local clubs or at least your state association...PLEASE!!! we have to join together)

Ruffy you do make a great point that there are certain things that we do need to focus on as the US, as a common people, but at the same time, people like bagger as quoted about have given blood, sweat, tears, and more importantly lives, for the one thing that makes us who and what we are. Each person in this country has a voice, and a decision to make, which no one can make for them. Ruffy, you and I both feel that things like the sagging economy, and the social security fiasco are very important to our country, but in no way shape or form is that in any way more important than someones view that a right to ride is the most important point in an election. I have many a friend(south dakota is the highest per capita to enroll in military service) and family who have fought to defend the freedoms that we take for granted, such as being able to choose those issues which you feel most strongly about and vote in a ways such as to secure those things you feel that way about.
First of all... Thank you to all those who have sacrificed for those rights!
Second... IF you feel that snowmobiling is the most important issue in the election, become informed and vote for that candidate that best reflects your interests,
and third... Thank GOD that you live in a country in which we can have this debate!!!
LAST... Make your decision, and vote the way you want to vote. Make a difference to those that feel the same way as you do by supporting your cause!

and if you want to call us rednecks, then F!&*&^$ go ahead, but come to a rural place like south dakota, and notice the difference. What you'll see here is a respect for other people like you will never see in any city. You can't F*&! someone and forget about it, because everyone knows everyone!! You are brought up learning to respect people, and thank God for the that which he's given us. If you've got problems figuring out one of those two then you'll get a nice welcome here with a South Dakota A$# Kickin!

P.S. GO PACKERS!!!

It would be nice if the site would allow you to compare rep vs. dem. I think there are a lot of people out there that don't put themselves into either group.

here is something you all might be intrested in..........the reason i would never vote for this candidate...........................................

Summary of the eRumor:
A picture of Senator Barack Obama (below), Governor Bill Richardson of New Mexico, Senator Hillary Clinton, and one other person all on a platform and backed by an American flag. The eRumor says that the national anthem was being played at the time and that all but Senator Obama saluted.

The Truth:
The picture is authentic. It was published in Time magazine and was taken 9/16/07 at an event in Indianola, Iowa where six Democratic presidential candidates appeared. It was Iowa Senator Tom Harkin's annual "meat and greet." The fourth person in the picture is Senator Harkin's wife, Ruth. Not seen in the picture are three other candidates who were standing out of view on the right side of the platform, Senator Chris Dodd, Senator John Edwards, Senator Joe Biden.

At question is what was going on with Senator Obama? His critics are circulating the picture and saying that he is not respecting the flag or the national anthem, especially since the protocol, according to the United States Flag code, is that civilians should have their right hands over their hearts and that they should be facing the flag. His supporters are saying that this little lapse should not be held against him since there have been plenty of other events at which he has saluted the flag---so it did not mean that he would, in principle, avoid doing it.

Some supporters have suggested that perhaps the picture does not tell the whole story and that he may have raised his hand shortly after it was taken.

An ABC News video, however, shows that Senator Obama did not salute at any time during the anthem and that everybody else on the platform did.

A spokesperson for the Senator told Fox News that it was ridiculous to suggest that Obama was making any kind of a statement and that sometimes "he does and sometimes he doesn't place his hand over his heart during the national anthem."

A real example of the eRumor as it has appeared on the Internet::

slippery slope there, snopes

is this a demonstration of being hypercritical?

Yeah, probably is.

Before you all jump my azz, I'm the guy that takes his hat off when eating (duh), stand and remove thy hat during the anthem, etc etc etc. I'm the guy that turns to the moron behind me and tells him to shut up (politely of course), etc, etc, etc.

So, is it hypercritical? There are bigger reasons to not let that guy in office. The fact that he missed this little tidbit of common knowledge does not make me want to cast the first stone. Same story with his middle name. What, you think he picked it??? Same story as the reason you're ugly....ain't your fault. j/k

The fact that he's a closet socialist however, is important. Stick to the issues folks. The fact that George Bush isn't the greatest speaker (he sucks) does not make him a stupid man. I'm sure most of you don't consider yourselves stupid, but dare say most of you flub your english often (hell, just check out the way 1/2 the folks on here write...)

I'm still liking Thompson, and watching. It will be interesting when Super Tuesday rolls around and groups of conservatives actually vote. The primary's and caucuses up to this point are fairly meaningless...highly influenced by cross voting and wishy-washy independents.

oh hell I'm in trouble if I ever run. I'll admit that I have not placed my hand of heart for teh anthem since elementary school. I do stand at attention and place my hands behind back while looking at the flag. Well I used to look at the flag until a few years ago. Had a talk with my old man and he had a good point.

Many times the POW flag is flying by the US flag and he(and know I) feels that the POW flag deserves more respect then the flag of the US. We the USA made promises to those boys and girls who served to bring them home, not leave them or deny that they were there. So until we have all of our soldiers home, I am going to do my bit to honor them and the promise made.

I know that's kinda a pot stirring post there, but hey I feel like I'm still showing proper respect to the country, and I have been asked about it before. I always try and explain as best I can to whoever asked, and I think it's actually made a few folks think.

X,
I appreciate the intent of your action (in respect to the flag - pun intended) but I think you and your Dad are missing something here.
Without going into detail, I have bond to the POW/MIA plight that will give me nightmares forever. Maybe I'll post some pics of my Harley on here sometime, but as angry as I get about all that, this is still My Country, and it's flag will fly below no other for me.
The very Men that you are trying to honor would, I believe, correct you for this disrespect to the Flag of our Country, even as they shed a tear with you for their plight.
B

bagger,

I get what your saying, and maybe I need to make clear that I am not putting any flag above the stars and stripes. Maybe putting the POW/MIA flag on an equal level, but never above. I guess I sort of miss stated my actions...It's more of a split attention between the two, I just can't not look at the black flag...of course I can't not look at the stars either.

X,
I understand. I put the POW/MIA out there infront of as many people as possible.
Unfortunatly, people DO forget. Thanks to you and your Dad for NOT FORGETTING.

:beer; Jerry

I hear what you are saying X,
but I must disagree.
That flag represents OUR country and shall fly ABOVE all others in our country.

I am Ex-military (Army Rangers) and even though it's been about 6 months short of 20 years since I got out,
I still have a very deep belief about this.
I do not agree with the desisions of our government a lot of the time and you do not have to either,
We have the right to speak out, and speak out you should.
but that is still our flag and it is still our country.

I took an oath to uphold the constitution of our country against all enemies foriegn and domestic.
There were no conditions or time limits on this oath and there are no conditions on my beliefs about or love for our flag and country.

Just my 2 cents.

I'm uninformed? Please inform me how jumping on the global warming bandwagon is good for our sport. Land closures are not the only problems we face. If the democrats (and hoodwinked republicans) list greenhouse gasses as a pollutant, recreational emitters will be the first restricted. When you hear the words "cap greenhouse pollutants" that my friend is the beginning of the end to sledding, vehicles capable of towing a sled, and our economy.
Now, please go through your little checklist.
By the way, the web site Oregongirl linked is a jaded, greenie site.

Wee,
So if I call myself a snowmobiler, that means I can't worry about the environment?
Why does it have to be one or the other? Doesn't that go back to Ruf's argument that folks from urban area's are better stewards of the land than rednecks?
I think that saying "I'm right and your wrong" is a cop out. It's like saying I'm not going to listen to you because my sides right, there for NOTHING you say can be right.
Here's a thought from my engaged brain...I love to spend time outdoors. I like to hike/bike/backpack and ride my motorcycle in summer and sled/camp in winter. Since I love the outdoors, I WANT TO TAKE CARE OF IT.
It's possible to do both. I don't live in the city like Ruf or in the sticks like his rednecks, those are the extreams.

I like to sled, responsibly.

Just because I like to ride my sled doesn't mean that I have to hate the environment.
Just because I love the outdoors, doesn't mean I can't ride there. B

I think weetee was referring to the "Human Caused Global Warming", and the preposterous carbon credits solution.

I fully support the environment, the whole world's environment. Trash and toxins and cleaner air and water, and harvesting and managing lumber locally. Heck, I even support cleaner snowmobile exhaust. But, I don't believe that "Human Caused Global Warming" will be solved by taking away my snowmobile. And, any candidate that believes that is too easily mislead.

One day, everyone's gonna realize that carbon dioxide isn't warming the planet. It's dark particles emissions, and darkened seas, and heat island cities, and unburnt methane. You want to see something cool, plot world population and global temperatures next to one another. You might see a trend. Besides, with China and India expanding at double digit rates, exactly what would we do to offset that uncontrolled expansion? They are already producing almost twice as much carbon dioxide, and pollution as we are, yet remain exempt from any global warming mitigation treaties.

Wade,
I agree. Personnally I believe that global warming is hugly exagerated, and that the contributing factors are NOT what we are being forced to listen to.
I also agree that ANY candidate that stands up and says he subscribes to the current theory (read Al Gore's theory) would have an unsurmountable flaw in the way of getting my vote.

What I don't agree with is that anyone that is concerned about enviromental issues is automatically a nut. And I think that goes back to -

Ruff's aperant intent:
Rednecks are bad.

Weetee's aperant intent:
Enviromentalist are bad.

And My intent:
You have to look at the whole person/issue every time to decide.

I'm betting that if WeeTee and I both went to a gathering for our favorite political party that we would meet there and have a beer and talk about this face to face.
The differance that I see is that it takes more than just that for me. Someone doesn't get my vote just because of a blanket political vote. Reading thru WeeTee's post's on this and other threads, it's pretty obvious that he believe's differantly.
Another differance is that it's ok with me. I'm not going to call him names, or make fun of him, or belittle him because he thinks differantly than me. Just like Ruff's rednecks. Being a redneck makes them differant than me, but it doesn't make them LESS than me.
That's my take on it. Anyone? B
