Powder coat or paint axys a arms?

My a arms are removed off mine. I ordered the por 15 starter kit, for $20 I'll give it a try. I don't expect the stockers to last long anyways.

How much of the starter kit did you use doing the a-arms? Will it do another sled or just one?

Do you guys think the POR is going to hold up when bashing through the willows and small trees? We have lots of creek crossings where we ride and early season we are going through lots of brush, bushes and willows.

I dont want to paint them all black and then have the stuff chipping off and looking like crap. Eric

Not too sure to be honest. Figured I'd give it a shot. It's pretty thick and I couldn't chip it with a wrench lightly.

Easily can get 2 sleds 2 coats

X2 I did all 4 a arms and 2 sets of handlebar clamps and I have more than half of the 4 Oz can left. I would recommend using the bristle brush on the first coat and sponge brush on the second coat so there's not brush marks and you can get in tight places easier.

Did you do the steering tie rods?

The POR-15 is tougher than most powdercoats I've used. I've been an advocate of POR-15 on these forums for years for it's durability, price and ease of application.

Here's a good video.

In my many years of using the POR 15...for our sleds, IMO, no worries with the UV issues mentioned in the vid ... on a bumper on an old truck that this was painted with... after a long time... 10 years... the finish only had dulling of the gloss and that truck lives outside....I don't think there will be any dulling issue with it on the sleds unless you leave them outdoors for the whole year.

In Gloss... Black, Gray, Silver and clear.

If you want color for paint... I recommend a tough paint... Like the U-tech mentioned above.

Wear a respirator in a ventilated area... it's toxic stuff. Spray application. (I've even used the Preval sprayers with good luck when no compressed air/gun was available).
Clean really well and prime with a self-etching-primer first. I never needed to use reducer (thinner) at room temps with the U-Tech.

For me, I like to paint using a tough catalyzed, single-stage urethane paint... that you can have mixed in 1000's of custom colors...gives powdercoat toughness and great colors... and no risk to the metallurgy. I'm a fan of the U-Tech 3.8HSP or U-350.

May have been discussed in the previous 76 posts, my apologies for not reading but has anyone ever chromed the a-arms? what were the results as far as snow and ice adhesion and accumulation?

When using the POR-15 on the new sleds do you still have to do prep steps or just paint onto new a-arms ??

I have changed out a few belts and never had the tools to change it. IMO, just having a couple zip strips to hold the belt so that it mimics the exact shape that it would have when installed and a second person to rotate the jackshaft are the 2 keys to make it possible.
