possible move to Everett area

So I am currently living in Yakima, pretty much grew up here my whole life and I like it very much. In the next couple months, if everything works out, I might have a chance for a promotion, but it would mean choosing between Spokane and Everett. I know quite a lot about Spokane and the recreation activities around, but not too much about Everett. Living in Yakima, I can leave the house and less than an hour I am on the machine and heading to my favorite riding areas.

1. Where do the Everett riders go and how long of a drive can I expect?
2. Is the traffic as bad there as it is down by Seattle?
3. Are the house prices as bad as the Seattle area?

The only place I have ridden I can compare to is the Fish Lake area. We used to rent a cabin for a week and ride the area, believe it was Sugarloaf Mt. Very impressed with the trail system, but not with the off trail riding, dense woods made it very difficult to get off the trail. Any info is appreciated.

Pick Spokane......

I think the traffic in Everett is one of the worst in the area, of course it depends on your commute. Housing is not like the east side, prices are coming down, but still up there. You'd be pretty close for a baker trip and whistler.

I really like being here, just those couple of things would make me consider something else if I had the option.

I would pick Everett... Rain is good, riding volcanoes is better, and cool summer temps is the best!

traffic is hella better since they widened the fwy through everett - I don't think I've been stuck in traffic but once since the work was completed...... once you are north of everett, though, traffic is yucky until you get through Marysville... house costs are less now then it was a year ago - matter of fact, if I were to sell my home today I would get about $50,000 less than a year ago, so now is a good time to buy!

many choices for good riding less than 2 hours away from where I live (north Marysville) and like Rob said, that much closer to Whistler :)

pick Spokane!

I used to commute to and from Everett everyday and I-5 was a bear in the evenings. Its not really worse than Seattle but everywhere on the west side has nasty traffic. Like yammadog mentioned Snohomish county is a little cheaper for housing but not much. Sure you can be on Baker in just over an hour but I think Spokane has more to offer for sledding .... Priest, Lookout, Blues

My $0.02;)

If you like good old dry sagebrush and pine, you'll go nuts on the west side. Whatever those wet siders try to tell you, it's all just like Seattle over there.

Yammadoggydoo just uses traffic as an excuse not to ride Baker, because he's scared of the deep snow. Plus he only lives 20 minutes from Gold Creek.

Traffic is fine in Everett, housing is cheap and the best people in the state live North of Seattle............

Steve feeling a little fiesty on this wonderful friday?....:beer;:D:devil: I avoid baker when you can't see, plus I would feel obligated to take pictures of you in tree wells. So I'm trying to be nice by staying away and let your wonderful wife take the pictures!!! Besides, yes GC is only one beer away and I can ride that in the fog without getting lost.!!:D

This is a case of 6 of one, half dozen of the other.

I have personally never ridden over towards North East Wa. or North Idaho but everything I've ever seen of it looks awesome.
I think the snow is a little "Fluffier" or drier over there and there seems to be a ton of riding areas too.

Over here we have the good old Cascade Concrete most of the time but we do have Mt St.Helens, which you've prolly ridden since you live in Yakima, and Mt Baker which as described above is a crapshoot as to whether you'll be able to see anything once you talke the drive to get there.

There are also TONS of less talked about riding areas here but the best are all over on the other side of the summit from here.

Try touring the North Idaho areas and get a feeling for what they have before you commit.
I know that every time I pull up hi-way cameras for NE WA. they always seem to have snow during the winter.

We get mostly rain.

I think housing is much cheaper in N. Idaho/NE Wa. too.

Tough call...
I'd prolly choose Spokane except the summers there are too dam hot and their winters are too dam icy and cold but you're already used to that!
