Polaris axys vs. skidoo 850 backcountry sleds

And that right there is the biggest thing The Doo fanatics don't get. The narrower better balanced Pro and Axys don't need to be reefer on , the G4 seems like someone at skidoo was paying attention.

This is something I always hear from my fellow Polaris riders as well however, every time I get on an XM, I find myself way over correcting the machine. I feel like I end up putting less input into an XM.

On a better balanced sled like the
Axys, leverage on the bars isn't really an issue. Handlebars are just for balance, using leg pressure and the throttle is all you really need...

Agree. Even the Pro-RMK is better balanced than the XM. I'm not so sure about the G4 though. Doo riders doo themselves a disservice when they don't admit this.

That would be great!
However if it handles less precise than the axys.....and...
Pushing the ability of my current sled is what i love.....
A step back in the handling department would be the exact opposite of what i want.

I'll definitely try one....

All the reviews i've heard and read say the spread is closer, but not even as good as a pro.....
Unless you ride meadows then you might never know if a poo or a doo does better in the steep.
The axys is so much better than the pro i am hesitant to drop cash on the first year doo. (Remember 08?)
Prototypes ran good production sleds were belt eating crank throwers.....

Even the Proto 08's, blew belts. The one machine in Revy blew 5 belts in the spring of 2007 in one day. The excuse given was how beat to $hit the sled was and how everybody was pounding on it non-stop.

I agree my last 2 SkiDoo snowchecks were piles. It took 2 seasons to make 1 mediocre and 1 season to make a decent sled out of the other. I hope this is the real deal, because it only helps all of us.

I'd love and hope to see Polaris begin development of a real 800cc ish powerplant and no more of this 440/600 overbore with limited case volume and injector placement. They have the handling part figured out.

I think Mark Holz rather than PI is deserving of all of the credit for Polaris replacing and removing the torsion springs from the mountain sleds. Maybe BRP is gunshy of copying technology??

Polaris doesn't get any credit at all for removing the torsion Springs from the rear skid. Cat removed the torsion springs in 2009, polaris followed suit in 2011.

I think Cat was also the first batteryless EFi?

Was it doo or poo that had engine reverse first?

I think doo was in 02 with a button on the console by the pull rope. Poo was 03, not sure if it was an option in 02?

Yes, I know. I didn't really think the Polaris Illogical Faithful wanted to hear that part. I also thought it was better to give full credit to the Man who invented it.

I think it is a GREAT factoid to present in a discussion vs Doo. Still puts Doo 5-7 years behind the competition and counting...

Each manufacturer has their strong points.

The etec came out in 2011. That puts poo and cat 5 years behind and counting in their engine tech in their 800's. And I know you'll probably try to downplay the importance of having clean engine tech but, eventually they will have to bring cleaner engines to their sleds or they won't be building 2 stokes at all. My pro uses quite a bit less oil than the axys' I ride with. Seems like the way they are getting the axys engine to live is to use more oil. That's not really engine "tech". It's just a bandaid that they will have to do away with eventually.

RER was patented and is still owned by BRP, they just licensed it to Poo and Cat in exchange for dropping other infringement claims. Think doo still has a claim against cat going for pyramidal structure. It's just business.

These guys mark each other every year, they buy each other's sleds, test and tear them apart. If you saw the R&D lot for any of them, you'd see the most current competitive models in all of them. Cat and Poo used to just swap two race sleds in the fall half way between TRF and Roseau, just to make it easy.

They all sort through the other's tech they find useful and can make work, not always legally, and roll the dice. Yeah, they ALL copy. They hire each other's people. So what. It's just business. Enjoy the ride with these awesome sleds while you can.

tell yer pro boys to vent their tanks (doo cap) and they will use the same exact oil as the axys. i have both, they use identical oil amounts.

I'll have to try that.

I also had a long conversation with a doo engineer at haydays a couple years ago and we got into oil consumption as topic. He stated that you will never see any less oil consumption than what you see today in the technology. if anything he predicted more consumption to stretch dependability. He also admitted how close the other manufactures were in consumption. they are literally as low as they can go and any less is recipe for failure.

the following year poo guys were loving how great their mileage was and oil consumption was great....then the catastrophic failures starting piling up. lol. we had poo pro-r riding with us using less oil than our etecs at that time. they all burned up eventually.

if throwing oil at a motor gets it over 5000 miles trouble free. sign me up.

I'm all about using more oil for longer life out of an engine.......sadly none of us make the rules for the EPA. I was referring what the EPA eventually will do to our beloved two strokes. If they had their way we wouldn't run oil at all.

If they had their way, sleds would not exist. The US EPA would be thrilled to get all off highway motorized access of any kind outlawed. A faction of the EPA at this time is attempting to crush the automotive aftermarket industry by outlawing the sale of any "off highway use only" performance products, i.e., just about every diesel mod you can come up with. Contrary to what the mainstream media wants you to believe, the US EPA has the most stringent air quality standards in the world right now, by far. Still not enough. End of thread hijack.
