polaris axys 800 motor durablity

Yes but your talking 4 stroke not 2. If the Chevy 350 was a 2 stroke you'd only need a 4 cylinger to make the same hp.
Sure but 2 strokes notoriously need rebuilt (at least top ends) about twice as often. If you have ever raced 125 mx you know what im talking about. A piston a month was the norm

Are you sure about that. 15,000 km = approx 9,320 miles. For a guy who gets new sleds every season is he really putting on that many miles on a sled when he has a couple to ride? OR are we talking about some 600 trail sled he also has around. Because I could easily see those numbers on a 600 trail/crossover sled.

It is NOT Dave Norona. Dave took a video of Ray Mason's 2013 XM and posted it.

Ray owns an outfit called Totally Awesome Adventures our of Pemberton BC and guides using that sled. The top end was done that 2013 XM 163 around 13500 KM and the sled currently has just over 17000 KM on it from a video that Dave Norona posted while guiding with Ray last week.

I do really hope the Axys motor lasts longer than the Pro Motors! My buddy on his 2013 Pro has blown his up twice in the last year with a total of 1400 KM on it so far.

Your comparing best case scenario to worst case scenario. There is good and bad in all brands. It took Doo alot of years to get there engine figured out. Axys engine so far is looking good.

Worst case is losing a connecting rod bearing at 202 miles. 6th day on snow. Blew a nickle size hole though the bottom of the case. Towed back to the trailer. I haven't heard of any other motors going.

4 here that I know of have had top end/ring catching/wearing exhaust port issues. Right at 1000 miles. Not a ton of guys have that many miles on yet, I think in the next month or two we will see if it was a few flukes or if there is a real issue.
Seems like more throttles sticking than engine issues as of yet.

Of course, ran into a guy today who was complaining of going through a case of plugs in 5 rides. Turns out he is running outboard engine oil, dealer told him he was good to do it.
Some people can destroy anything if they try hard enough............sure hope Poo doesn't want an oil sample when his engine goes down.

Mine has throttle sticking issues...it's spooky!!

I have had my engine apart twice for development purposes..first time the sled was dead stock with a can. It has been run hard from day one and when it came apart with 335 miles I have no doubt that it would have broken within 1000 miles. Skirts on pistons had wear related to bore rock, limited oil on the bottom end of the motor, rod bearings were blue from hear, pins didn't want to come out of the pistons..she was a dad sick.

Engine went back together with a fix kit and wisecos. Modified oil cap so it can't stop venting, 100:1 amsoil in every tank along with a general tune up to boost output.

Engine came back apart at 600 miles for additional port work. Looks pretty good this time. Piston appears to be staying straighter in the bore. Heat on the bearings is no longer excessive, pins came out easy etc. plenty of oil all over the crank.

Long story short, Atleast a fair portion of the ho motors will blow up if left stock and run hard IMO

thanks for the info. I've rode the y brand for the last 25yrs. Got about 5200 hard miles out of my piped 03 viper, then went nytro love the 4 stroke just want something lighter. see a lot of pro's but read that they don't last. at the price of new sleds I want something that I can trust to get back to the truck. don't want a 16" track cant go green so looking at the poo

Don't get me wrong, she blew on the trail after 2 days of the best riding in the last ten years. I love the Axys a lot. The motor is responsive and strong. I was one of the unlucky ones. Along with the throttle sticking, my error code from a "stuck throttle" happened 87 times in 202 miles. Weird.

I think the "stuck throttle" syndrome is why there has been a run on my TSS Bypass Jumpers. PM me for details

The vendor Polaris gets it's CFI cylinders from is pretty skimpy on the port chamfering. This is one of the major contributors to the rings flaking, catching in extreme cases and the accelerated piston skirt collapsing that have given them a bad reputation. Well worth pulling the cylinder and spending a few minutes doing what they should have done to start with.

is the 15 and 16 mono jug the same?
