sled sounds great easy to handle and light but my question is the motor will it last approx. 5000 miles with out a rebuild light doesn't work if it doesn't last ran my last 2 smoke 6yrs and over 5000 miles before it went away.

We can make something up for you if you'd like?

Not sure if anyone has 5000 mountain miles on one yet...let alone enough people to guarantee you it will make 5000 miles without a rebuild. The cat/Suzuki 800 has been around almost 10 years and is a great motor as far as 800 sleds go...but still no one honest can guarantee you 5000 miles from a top end.

So far they are doing great - highest miles on one of ours is just shy of 2000 (miles not km).

You won't even get 5K out of the newer high strung four strokes. Although Indy Dan's HG7 Cylinder finish and a long rod crank will get you as close as you're going to get for any modern 2 stroke. IMO

No you will not see 5000 miles most likely. And if you do i doubt it would run real well

Although I understand what the poster is asking (is it durable), I don't see the purpse of trying to get 5000 miles out of any 2 stroke without a rebuild. I like to open mine up 2000-2500 ish and do the top end. A set of Pistons and rings and a gasket kit is a lot cheaper than wearing everything down to scrap metal stage and then having to buy a crate motor

Just my opinion tho

not looking to fuel any fires, but there are guys up here in Sicamous that have put 8-10,000km on a stock etec before it goes. I can't comment on how hard they are still pulling at those miles because I haven't ridden them personally, but it is possible to have a 2 stroke last over 5k miles..

But really, if you want your mountain sled to be pulling hard all day in the powder, I agree with the previous post - rebuild the top end after 3-4k miles and be done with it before it grenades.

I'm curious about the longer term axys motor durability as well, interested in making the switch but a little apprehensive after all the 2011 -2013 cleanfire 800's i have seen pop at low miles, sometimes as many as 3 times before 3000km.. from what I have heard so far they are looking good for reliability.

Dave Norona did his first piston on his 800 etec at 15 000km. Motor is still running with over 17 000km on it.

Are you sure about that. 15,000 km = approx 9,320 miles. For a guy who gets new sleds every season is he really putting on that many miles on a sled when he has a couple to ride? OR are we talking about some 600 trail sled he also has around. Because I could easily see those numbers on a 600 trail/crossover sled.

Your question won't be answered until next season. Cat and Doo both have motors that are durable and last these days. Poo guys are just so used to being lucky to get 2k miles out of a motor they think all engines are now that way. For what a new sled cost today I think it should be a given they last 5k miles not a wish...

For those who feel 2,000 miles is satisfactory, do you realize that is only a 50 hour motor? No wonder Polaris has been buying me one or two motors a year for the last 5 years. Thank god for unlimited mileage/hours warranty or I couldn't afford to ride one. I love my Pro's, I just always hope they self destruct at the end of the season instead of the middle.

Lol what? I have 50 hrs on my sled and 550 miles. It is a mountain sled after all...

Im sorry i just dont expect an engine that is making over 3hp per cubic inch to last that long? Thats like a 1000 hp n/a 350 chevy. I mean a 250f dirt bike makes about 2.5 hp per cubic inch and i think the service interval for a 250f piston is something like 20 hours and they dont even come with warrenties! We ask a ton out of these engines

Yes but your talking 4 stroke not 2. If the Chevy 350 was a 2 stroke you'd only need a 4 cylinger to make the same hp.
