i am running out of time on snow check. i have always rode ski-doo but i am so torn. someone who has rode both please help me!

What help?

The etec Summit is 11lbs heavier than the carbed Summit. The only change to the 2011 Summit is the narrow ski stance so if you like the current XP the new one might be a little too tippy for you. The 800 etec is WAY different than the 600 etec motor... only thing they have in common is the oil pump. Do you trust Doo on that motor? Have you ridden an XP and do you like the way it rides?

ProRMK is all new. Do you trust a first year sled from Polaris?

154 etec Summit X is 459lbs
155 ProRMK is 431lbs

Both 'published' dry weights

In a mountain sled, what is the draw of the etec 800? 11lbs heavier and several hundred dollars more. And better fuel mileage and oil consumption is an interesting claim until you realize what rpm/speed those tests are run at.

Assuming both sleds don't have major issues either one will be a good one to have.

the new polaris comes with a 4 year bumper to bumper warranty

my little bro and his buddies just snow-checked 4 of the new polaris pro-RmK, 2- 153's and 2- 163's price was the same $11,028 OTD from Lewistown, MT. polaris dealer. i personally would have no problem buying a new polaris with a 4 year warranty, they potentially could be the cat's Meow

i currently have a 163x 2008 model and it climbs like a dream but just wears me out!. i am going to a 154-155 no matter what and just want something that handles way easier. i loce doo's but think the new pro rmk 155 might be the way to go. need impit from folks that have tested both. price isnt the issue as much as dont want to be whooped at the end of the day.

Id love to hear how they test the etec.

I've ridden both, but in very different snow conditions...and about a month apart.

Hard to comment, but I like the Pol and Cat riding positions MUCH better than the Doo.

Fuel and oil consumption numbers for all sleds that are published are done at the EPA mandated process, which is steady state throttle at different points between 20 and 60 mph. No full throttle, no on and off throttle nothing.

A completely unpublished fact about the 800 etec is that at wider throttle openings up to and including wide open it can actually consume more fuel and oil than the carbed version.

Yup, ride it at part throttle at 40mph and it will get great fuel mileage and use less oil. You'll have to decide how that equates to how you ride your mountain sled.

I can tell you this, we rode an 800 etec and an 800 powertec in West Yellowstone for 4 hours on each other's bumpers up the trails, through the trees, up hills in ravines, etc. When we got back to the staging area and filled them up the etec used .1 gallons less than the powertec had.

As alot of Polaris owners will tell you "You can't ride a warranty!"

:boom:

I would buy a holdover of what ever brand...same some money. Then use the difference to set up your sled for how you like to ride.

neither - get an M8 :)
Yeah because that 2011 M8 is going to be something else.:face-icon-small-dis
Oh wait no it'll be the same ol chet.:face-icon-small-hap

4-year warranty and they'll hook you up on a 2012 if you have problems with the 2011.
I think Doo gives 2 chets about their customers and I hope they lose a bunch....I'm jumping ship.

Ride a 2010 Summit....night/day different in riding effort compared to '08-'09 with the susp changes.

Both Poo and Doo have alot of "new" next year. Hopefully both will be great sleds and Poo won't have the engine issues they have had the last few years....but starting over with a all new fuel system is concerning!
E-tech technology has been around a long time and SHOULD be reliable.
The HONEST fuel (and oil) consumption numbers I have heard are 15% better than a 800R carb in mountain riding....up to 40% cruising roads but who does that?:face-icon-small-con
Those I have heard from that rode both say the most noticable difference was the power, with the advantage going to Doo....
but who knows what changes will be made with either sled for production next fall. ??

you are correct the 2011 M8 is going to offer the same ol chet:

rock solid reliability
most powerful motor
incredible mountain performance and handling
not the best ride on the trail

did I mention rock solid reliability. Getting broken sleds out of real mountain areas is not fun.

brew, the problem with the Doo 800 etec is that it is all completely different than the 600 etec. The list of new things they had to come up with to make the 800 work is pretty daunting. The 600 etec is nearly a straight translation from the outboard application. The 800 had to have all new controls, injectors, electrics, fuel pump... everything but the oil pump, to make it work. It even runs at a higher voltage.

I rode both of them side by side in West and you could throw a blanket over them from what we found. The Doo guys said they weren't finished with calibration yet.

SO, your saying the 800 will run right with the 600, cool:face-icon-small-blu
