Planet trivia...Do you think there is life?????

OK, got this email and it really makes you think..take a look at these pics. We are just a drop in a bucket out here.

ANTARES IS THE 15TH BRIGHTEST STAR IN THE SKY.
IT IS MORE THAN 1000 LIGHT YEARS AWAY.
NOW HOW BIG ARE YOU?
---------------------------------------------------------

NOW TRY TO WRAP YOUR MIND AROUND THIS.........

THIS IS A HUBBLE TELESCOPE ULTRA DEEP FIELD INFRARED VIEW OF COUNTLESS
'ENTIRE' GALAXIES BILLIONS OF LIGHT-YEARS AWAY.

I have this picture in high-resolution... it's a 60MB JPG.... crashes most image viewers.

I could be a real jerk and post it in

So the next time you feel like getting all fired up about something stupid like politics or religion or the economy or abortion or the homeless or aids or WHATEVER...remember that one day soon you will not be here...and before too long the Sun will expand and the Earth will also not be here...you (and I) are NOT SIGNIFICANT!!!

not a doubt in my mind that other planets hold life.....

Now wrap your mind around this.

Do we share this Earth with others? Are there perhaps other dimensions that exist on Earth at this very moment?

Current estimates, There are 10 billion up to 1 trillion stars per galaxy. And, there are 50 to 100 billion galaxies. That's 1 billion trillion stars, or 1x10E15 stars. Now if only 1 percent have an earth like planet, that's still 10 billion billion planets. 1x10E12 planets somewhat like earth. (they predict that up to 60% of stars have planets, but what type?)

That's a lot of planets. Life, is almost certain. The number of planets with civilizations, is calculated in a formula called the Drake_equation. If you think about the earth, 4 billion years old, and we've had radio communications for 100 years, and we'll be lucky to be around in another 1000 years. So, that makes the number pretty chancy. The current prediction is 2.3 civilizations within the entire Milky Way, so were very lonely.

Anyway, I wouldn't be surprised to find "signs" of life in outer space, even if it's just DNA strands. Something tells me, life is norm, not the exception.

Another factoid I read is that if you take all of the grains of sand on all of the beaches on the planet Earth, you're not even close to equalling the number of galaxies in the universe.

Good stuff... though I think the 1 % number might be a little high. I don't know what is worse, the fact that it is highly probable that there is life out there, or the fact that it is more probable that we won't ever meet them....

and all of this is determined by our interpretation of what we think we see.... scary road to go down right there.....

We cant be the only life. there is way to much area out there for there not to be life. what is space? what is beyond space? is there an end? really messes with yer mind:confused::beer;

My 1% was stars with planets at least as good as Mars. But, the Drake equation seems to guess that half the stars have some rocky planet (or satellite, as they put it), and those will have 2 planets each. There numbers are way high to me. (and this is the most debated number in the equation) But, who knows. It's very easy to conclude that there may only be one currently active "civilization" per galaxy, on average. (or less)
