Placer River

It was freakin' deep!

We left the 2nd lot at daybreak Saturday with about 1/4 mi visibility. About 1 mile from the glacier we put two sleds in the river. After we turned around, visibility went to nothing & we buried the sleds in a few more sloughs. 4 miles from the road we were pushing snow completely over the cowlings. Kind of a wet snow near the highway but pretty fluffy farther up the valley.
As soon as the storm passes it'll be awesome!!

Placer Open and the trail is in

Yesterday at 10ish am they decided to open it back up. We were on the snow at 10:01ish putting the trail back into Skookum Ice Cave. There is about 12-14 inches of new at the road and over 2+ feet back at the ice cave. We had trips out today both in the morning and in afternoon without any problems.

Be careful of some of the snow bridges we built and at the ice cave, the river is open in a few places. There is enough snow to ride, but it's kinda like early season, not everyting is filled back in yet. Huge slides to the valley floor on all aspects both sides.

Chris

Were the slides from the last strom cycle or fresh from this weeks snow?

Thanks

Last storm cycle from what I could tell. With the poor vis, I didn't want to get too close to the toe of sides. I have seen some new slides this week in the Chugach Mts. running out over the toe of last weeks slides, be careful out there.

Yeti and I rode today...Few inches from highway about half way back. Ended up at skookum. About 8" new snow. Hills by the cave 1 1/2 to 2 feet wet, sticky snow.

Wasn't a bad day, could have been better...Got the RR wet...so it was a good time... missed you puff...

Please Pass the Mashed Taters

Rode Placer monday, Upper thirtys at overflow, spittin rain. Rode on and off the river, lots of overflow and a few open areas. Going in to Skook valley conditions got better, Sleet. Those were some good size slides, nothing fresh. Played in the taters back to the ice cave.

Played back to the truck, drenched, but had good 3 hour tour. Lots of overflow' on the creeks and marshes. Not sure how long it will stay open.

Conditions?

About a half dozen of us guys are planning on going to Placer on Saturday and we're wondering what the conditions are and if there's anything we should watch out for?

Thanks
