The weather report shows thick snow fall in Central Oregon.
So, what are we to do? I've got an idea.... Let's RIDE!!!
We rustle up the local crew and hit Paulina Lake on Sunday.
Here is my ride report...
Jackie, Kim, Lane >>>
Heading to the top of Paulina Peak. The trees look AWESOME all
covered with thick white snow >>>
TJ gets stuck on a tree >>>
The girls want to hit the trail that skirts the rim of the volcano so they take off.
The guys want to ride "Roller Coaster" which is like a
giant half-pipe that skirts the lava flow going UP! >>>
TJ hill climbing the side of the half pipe >>>
NEFFR hitting all the hills and jumps >>>
Jim gets stuck in a tree hole >>>
NEFFR ends up getting it out. Just PIN IT and out it goes! >>>
We climb Roller Coaster up and make it up to the Big Meadow. NEFFR >>>
NEFFR bifs in the POW and jumps back on his sled >>>
How it's time to descend down the ominous GNAR down into "Hell Hole" >>>
It's easy until you get to the steep part where you go over the hellacious ledge.
DANGER. STEEP TRAIL AHEAD:
You say a "Hail Mary" just drop off the ledge.
It's SUPER STEEP and the trail tries to suck you into the trees to the right. (Left side when you look at this pic below)
Just "side hill" it and don't lock up your tread or you gain critical mass and you're dead.
Pure adrenaline rush!!!>>>
I get to the bottom and grab my camera thinking I'm going to snap some shots
of a couple NEWBS crashing down the descent. NOPE, they all make it!!!
WTF? Cool!
We all get down without crashing.
TJ pins it and gets on top of the cornice on top of Hell Hole >>>
NEFFR jams his thumb into the throttle, pins it at 8,000 RPM and
LAUNCHES off the top catching SICK AIR >>>
By now we're all getting hungry. So we stop at Paulina Lake Lodge for lunch.
