Patrol Plans Sobriety Checkpoints

I do 10,000 miles a month and see a lot of shiat on the roads ......thing pizzes me off is the day I get a call from the rcs tellin me my wife a 4 kids were wiped out by some drunk mother _____________fill in the blanks

that guy wouldn't even get to his court hearing .............PERIOD

Well you folks who have zero tolerance for drinking & driving better take your cell phones & shove'em somwhere while driving also, cuz I guarandamtee you they cause more accidents than booze!

There is a huge difference between being legally drunk (.08) and actually being drunk.

They pick on us drunks so much, it's almost like they don't even want you to drink & drive anymore.

Yeah... that's kinda what I get out of the whole deal, after all if your at .08 that means you had just a little too much cough syrup. A guy can't even go downtown for happy hour and have 2 beers without legally being over the limit, you come across one of these "checkpoints" and your now in for a big pain in the ***.

I remember the good ol' days when the cops would either follow you home or even give you a ride if you were too far out of shape. There may have been incidents back then involving alcohol but the news media wasn't all over every little story like they are now and then inflating all the negative.

I think if you get caught with a 2.0 or better your fine should be to pay for 1 mile of highway to be paved, let's start with with Highway 34 west of Pierre......

it was crazy .....no prob with cell phones ...I shift an 18 speed jockey a super b in downtown Edmonton traffic while on the phone ...its all these fricken wannabe premaddona pricks crossin the center line laghin at some stupid joke they heard on the other end of the phone that i worry bout:mad:

Another good point...... Some states have already made it illegal to use cell phones, next you wont be able to eat while driving, fornicate while driving, read the paper while driving, shave while driving, do your makeup stuff while driving....... the possibilities of getting a ticket are endless.;)

To date cell phones and driving are not illegal in most states, But drinking and driving is illegal in all states and most countries. I surely hope someone you know and love is never kilied by a drunk driver. But if it was to happen I would hope you would grow up and change your attitude. This comes from a guy who had to drive off the road with his wife and 9 year old son to avoid being hit head on by a drunk driver on I-90 going the wrong way. 1/2 mile down the road he was in the ditch passed out behind the wheel. Luckily an off duty deputy happened to see it all and grabbed me by the arm as I was pulling the drunk out of the car.

I know all too well about putting friends into the dirt because of alcohol related accidents.:(

I'm absolutely certain none of them were caused by 3-4 beers at happy hour though.

Most DUI's are just for the cash flow, FACT!! In 2005 the lower 48 states grossed over 11.4 billion on DUI's. Over the last 10 years in the State of Colorado, some 350,000 citizen were arrested on DUI charges, of that 350,000, approximately 300,000 submitted to a breath test with the Intoxilyzer 5000en manufactured in Owensboro, KY. However the State of Colorado neglected to calibrate the machine for the barometric pressure difference, hence the ideal gas pressure law. P1*V1/T1=P2*V2/T2 so the fact of the matter is that some 300,000 citizens in Colorado have been wrongly accused of DUI. So wrongly accused: instead of your wife being hit by a drunk driver the police are accusing her of larceny, is that better?

Dam right I am for zero tolerance. .08 to me I could most likely drive fine, .08 to a smaller person is a much greater effect.

If you want to drink then have a buddy drive you it is that simple. I go to the bar all the time and only have 1 or 2 over a few hours, because I have to drive home. If I have a ride I will drink more.

And that would be a damned shame as well as the last straw. That's what makes America so great, the fact that you can drive across the country well being serviced!

If you do the crime, you should be prepared to do the time.

In this case, pay a ticket. Do you want the cops to put up a sign saying they're hiding behind a sign 2 miles up the road?

It's simple, you speed, you get caught, you get a ticket. You drive thru an ADVERTISED DUI checkpoint, you get a ticket AND it shows how dumb you are.

Disclaimer: I'm about as far from perfect as one gets.

Also, when I say "YOU", I'm not directing it towards YOU xrated. You, in this case, means ones self.

***steps off soap box***

Well said, well said...but I would rather have the cops busting someone at .9BAC then someone doing 65 in a 60.

which reminds me ...this dink passes me the other day ...shes suckin the chrome off his bumper .......and I just go .......what an azzhole ...blew the horn a few times ....it was priceless

Pretty funny at the end of the year last year. Highway Patrol spend so much in advertising the checkpoints on radio and TV that they didn't have enough for payroll for the extra officers needed to conduct them. I know it was the whole month of Dec and most of Nov. That they didn't have the checkpoints they advert for.

radar and everything here...

we have them on skidoos... the provincial and the municipal ones too.... 70 klics here and they check the trails ... been stopped 6 times this year..( just checking..) and i try not to go on the trails..they are everywhere..checking for permits and anything else..my 13 year old got a 500 $ ticket for rideing under age..but atleast they let me get my wife and take the sled...sure beats 30 days in the yard..hes been ridding a sled since he was 4 years old..at the farm...you have to be 16 and take a course here in quebec..my son is 5 feet 10 inches...and weighs 190...hes not a little kid.. ( next time when they ask him his age hope he lies.. ) paid the ticket and now ride ahead of him....the drunks dont ride much...they go to the club houses and then get drunk and drive home..in their cars...not on the trail where the cops are...some buddies got tickets for going 180 klics in a 70 zone...this has been going on here for the last 3 years... and now we are losing our trails in the parks...and if you are off trail in the parks..its 300 $ i know.. yes they have a job to do...but

Sad Deal

A buddy of mine had a few (5-6) beers before going to bed around 10PM a couple of weeks ago and at about 11:30 PM he gets a call from one of his employees from a bar about 3 miles away saying he has had too many drinks to drive home, keep in mind employee is in my budddies company truck (he is a delivery driver) so my buddy is pissed gets up and goes over and picks up his Dad(to drive the other truck home) to go and get the guy and his truck! he plans on chewing the guys a$$/firing for this stunt in one of his trucks!

Low and behold he comes upon a DUI check point, he can't figure out why the hell there's a checkpoint on a Monday night? then it dawns on him it is St. Patty's day Ooops, and you guessed it he gets pulled over and blows a .9:mad: the officer gave him 3 tests 2 tests were .8 and the third is a .9.

He ends up with a DUI and in Jail for 12 hours, and now faces a mandatory 18 month suspension of his license because on January 1, 2008 our state (Ca.) changed the law which now says if you get 2 DUI's within 10 years you automatically lose your license for 18 months! and get this.... his last DUI was in June of 2001! the old law allowed him to remove the DUI after 7 years he missed that by a few months! but he was grandfathered into the new law somehow?

I am not saying driving under the influence is ever OK but this guy is 6' about 220lbs, he in no way felt under the influence or he would of had his dad drive and thought he was doing the right thing by going to get his employee and his truck! he is now $crewed big time! he can not even drive himself to his own business! so it seems the system needs to have some room for adjustment for bigger guys that have a higher alchohol tolerance, don't you think?
